I see that Venus Williams just won the Dubai classic Tennis tournament, proudly holding the trophy aloft, as she smile for the cameras.

Do you think the event would've taken place if Venus was barred from the event because she was black ? And, after the return to cycling of Lance Armstrong (doper extraordinaire), is there any morality left in sport ?

The world is very tolerant of dopers and Black people. Only Israelis get barred.

Would you bare people because of the color of their skin?

Would also want to bar people just because they had a smoke (pot) ?

Addicted to Fake Outrage by David Sirota

"...what's even more inane than our irrational reefer madness is our addiction to the same high that every pothead craves: the high of escapism. Nerves fried from orange terror warnings, Drudge Report sirens and disaster capitalism's roller-coaster economics, our narcotic of choice is fake outrage - and it packs a punch. It gets us to turn on the television, tune in to the latest manufactured drama, and drop out of the real battle for the republic's future."

Two more things worthy of a read:

What Michael Phelps Should Have Said
Smoking pot shouldn't be a crime. Or the public's business.

Sheriff Lott's Pot Shot
Will Obama reject the anti-drug zealotry highlighted by the Michael Phelps farce?

The finger is in the dam: doping will be a fully integrated part of sporting excellence and record breaking before too long, because it has been for 50 years, but it takes a little while for the worm to turn. No wonder the world "is very tolerant of dopers".

And there's nothing wrong with black people.

So you do agree with me that its nonsense to bar people because they smoke pot?

That would the first time we agreed in something.

No. I reckon it's a very serious thing to bar people because they smoke pot. It's not nonsense at all. We will just have to wait for that moment of unlikely agreement.

Has Global Warming reduced the level of irony in the UK since I went abroad to become a Jesuit lay preacher among Scriabin's inscrutable savages?

It was an ironic comment not a sarcastic one.
