what do you mean?
that in the future we will live in space or we will have to move to another planet?
unless we evolve into energy-based beings we will definetlely need to move away when the resources are depleted (wich might happen in as little as 100 years at the rate we destroy our planet)
and mankind will never live exclusively in space willingly
i merely throw a question for discussion.
we can colonise other worlds
we can build artificial habitats
we can re-engineer ourselves for other circumstances
we can evolve into other beings
we could fill an ecological niche like the guppy
we can allow other beings to evolve
we can expand life in general
and probably another few hundred possibilities
using the resources of our planet hardly matter if we expand out of it. plenty of resources out there.

we cannot build artificial habitats(yet, not practical anyway)

we can evolve into other beings(but it is questionably we would survive that long as a race if we don't move out)
we cannot allow other beings to evolve(human nature: selfish we are like locusts)
how can we colonise other planets when there are constantly wars on Earth, atomic weapons are not destroyed, cheap energy alternatives(sun power, wind power, not to mention the SF cold fusion) are not implemented because oil companies control the world
we must first evolve as a society and only afterwards may we dream to the stars i can only hope we survive that long

we are closer to doing all of these than you think.
you overestimate the power of oil companies.
if we want it we can get it.
if we see only despair then we are lost.
The main reason that mankind aint going to colonise other worlds, build artificial habitats etc.. is money and greed, space travel too expensive. if you was a billionaire oil tycoon what would you spend your cash on a luxury yacht a few playmates endless champagne
or spend it on space research which you'll not live that long to see.
I seriously doubt world governments could afford to pay the type of cash needed.
Even if we populate other planets, many of the beutiful sights of Earth won't go with us. I think we should all get off this planet and leave it alone, only coming back as a sort of safari trip or something. We are destroying hundreds of other species on this planet and really need to clean up our act. Just because we can survive elsewhere (maybe) doesn't mean we should just use up this planet and throw it away.
Another thing comes to mind, also in that billion year period,
Andromeda galaxy is due to crash into the milky way with a REAL
big splash. Won't directly effect most existing stars but the clanging
of charged clouds will for sure make a bunch of new stars that
are trying their best to sterilize thousands of cubic light years of
space all at once! Nice, huh?
