After a closely fought referendum the Swiss have voted to ban the burqa from January 2025.

I was under the impression (he says with tongue firmly in cheek) that Switzerland was a liberal society.

@moonbus, which way do you vote and what’s going on out there?

If they can ban burka's, why not crosses or Yarmulkas?

It's a victory if you hate Islam but a loss for freedom of religion.

Regarding the Swiss being liberal, last year they elected a right-wing government.

Its a victory then. It is better to do like Angola and start finding reasons to knock over their mosques.

Freedom of religion implies freedom from religion. People must be free to practice their religion as long it does not impact on others.

What business is it of the State if you want to cover your face or not?

Are ski masks sales being banned in Switzerland as well?

From the link in the OP:

Facial coverings will remain permitted for reasons relating to health and safety, for native customs, or due to weather conditions, it said. They would also be allowed on artistic and entertainment grounds and for advertising, it added.

Doesn't seem clear.

Burka's (debatably) don't hurt anyone so long as women are willing adherents to the religion.

Burqa dont hurt anyone ... Lol. Thats funny. Its a security issue. You dont know who is inside there and what weapons they have. These people are notorious terrorists. Lots of countries have banned these things becuse it is like a full body covering and weapons can easily be concealed

More than 20 countries have banned the burqa, hijab and other full body coverings. The state is making it their business because Islamic terrorists hide behind these things to attack unsuspecting people.

You missed my edit. I say they debatably don't hurt anyone, as long as they're not forced to be worn.

Are burqas banned in general public spaces or only specific situations like airport security? If the latter, I'm fine with the ban.

I wasn't asking an ignorant, bigot like yourself.

I was asking others who have some respect for human rights - which you don't.

I have no intention of responding to any more of your ridiculous posts here.

EDIT: Yes, terrorists routinely hide weapons on their face which is what this law bans covering.

They tried to ban them in Ireland but the IRA threatened retaliation. Sneaky terrorists.

Are you saying that 20 or more other countries are bigots and do not have respect for human rights? I suspect that you are a muslim and a supporter of terrorism because anytime a country takes reasonable steps to protect themselves from these Islamic fundamentalists, you condemn their actions.

Also if you want to have a private forum I think that is possible. Start a club/clan and post stuff there. I promise I wont join... 😀 It really infantile to tell people not to respond to you, especially when you are posting nonsense on a public forum.

Absurdly, it doesn't even apply on airplanes. https://www.business-standard.com/world-news/swiss-burqa-ban-what-it-means-as-new-law-takes-effect-from-january-2025-124110800841_1.html

Ireland is a notorious supporter of Islamic terrorism and open Jew-haters.
