@no1marauder saidSki masks were included in the ban:
Are ski masks sales being banned in Switzerland as well?

Technically it's a ban on face coverings, not burqa's specifically.
Technically speaking.

@vivify saidWhy airport security? We go through scanners, only when boarding the plane in most airports do you need to show your passport. Interestingly in Egypt bags and passports were checked just to enter the airport.
You missed my edit. I say they debatably don't hurt anyone, as long as they're not forced to be worn.
Are burqas banned in general public spaces or only specific situations like airport security? If the latter, I'm fine with the ban.
I don't have any issues with a headscarf if as you say it's the persons choice but a full on burka with only the eyes showing isn't necessary imo. Smacks of repression. Should they be banned though? I don't think so.
@vivify saidAre COVID masks also banned? 🙂

@A-Unique-Nickname saidDont know what you referring to, to be honest.
Our biggest enemies are small island nations close to the south American mainland, the new military base in Guam, party funded by the US is coming along nicely in preparations for the invasion.
Got a link that I can read?

@vivify saidI've read several articles concerning the law and it exempts pretty much everything but face coverings worn by a small minority of Muslim women. The supporters of the original referendum made it clear it was directed against this subgroup ostensibly because such coverings somehow inhibit "integration" into society (the security argument is too stupid to be taken seriously).

So it is an out and out discriminatory measure aimed at members of a religious minority.
@vivify saidI think it’s (stated as being) a security issue.
If they can ban burka's, why not crosses or Yarmulkas?
It's a victory if you hate Islam but a loss for freedom of religion.
Regarding the Swiss being liberal, last year they elected a right-wing government.
I’m not convinced on the freedom of religion as the burka isn’t religious of itself, it’s a totem of the blatant oppression of women in Islam.
Yes, hence my asking Moonbus in another thread how he voted, but he politely dodged it.

@divegeester saidTerrorists don't hide weapons on their face so the "security" argument is bogus.

Do you feel the same way about habits that nuns in the Catholic Church wear? Would you be OK with the State banning these because they signify the blatant oppression of women in the RCC?
@divegeester saidHard to justify in the US where even, say, carrying a gun, is not viewed as a "security issue." 😆

@no1marauder saidI’d didnt say I thought it was for security, I was just citing the article. I haven’t read around it so I don’t know. However I do think face coverings are a security risk, it’s a big problem here in the UK, not burqas but hoodies and masks etc. We DONT have an issue here with Muslim women, but have a serious one with some Muslim males and it’s getting worse. Here people have to take of crash helmets and any masks when entering shops … not by law though as far as I know.

I also didn’t say I approve of the banning, I don’t. Firstly I don’t think it’s necessary; how many crimes are committed in Switzerland by people dressed in a burqa (rhetorical). And secondly if women want to wear one, let them.

@spruce112358 saidHa! Good point.

@no1marauder saidYes it is discriminatory. It is result of the problems caused by Arab immigrants in many parts of the world. If you are blind to that then you need to open your eyes.
So it is an out and out discriminatory measure aimed at members of a religious minority.
@no1marauder saidCatholic nuns dont shout "AllahOackbar" and explode in crowded busses, and malls.
