if the shooting results in paralysis and the victim dies from the paralysis after 20 years, why shouldn't the shooter be charged with murder?
Because you don't know yet the paralysis is going to kill that person.

Have any parents been convicted of attempted murder for feeding their children badly?
Why bring in children to the argument? I'm not following, explain the relevancy.

I am exploring how the concept of "attempted murder" is applied even when the person accused was not trying to murder anyone and didn't have motive to murder them [at least as far as we know]. Negligent parents accused of murdering their children [through "reckless and extreme disregard for human life"] and Benaissa accused of trying to murder [presumably all] of her her sexual partners [also through "reckless and extreme disregard for human life"] clearly have something in common. So my question about "children" was me trying to get my head round, what is for me, a distorted concept of "murder".
