@vivify saidyes the votes would count. people are voting for electorates, not Trump or Pence.
Looks like you're correct and I'm wrong.

Apparently, the party will have to pick a new candidate. Any votes already cast for the deceased wouldn't count.

Even clinton didnt understand the electoral college system.
The post that was quoted here has been removedEven Fox News knows that's what he said:

Trump’s vote-twice comments outrage media
Now I’m not defending the outrageous suggestion that Americans somehow test the system by voting twice.
Read it and squirm.

Trump doubles down on encouraging supporters to vote twice, which is illegal
Trump said if your first vote did not count, vote again at the polls. NOT illegal.
@dood111 saidIt wasn't meant as a quote, but a restatement of his and sh's position.
Trump never said "So what if a few hundred thousand die".
This is a quote though: when asked about the COVID death toll the Donald said:
"It is what it is.

@no1marauder saidThere is a decent chance Donald Trump will recover from this, and if that happens he can prance around and play the role of tough guy, impressing the hell out of his voter base; the swing voters and Democrats however will look upon him a silly old man, who didn't take proper precautions, and put himself needlessly in harm's way.
"President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump have tested positive for the coronavirus, the president tweeted early Friday.
Trump’s positive test comes just hours after the White House announced that senior aide Hope Hicks came down with the virus after traveling with the president several times this week. @sh76 saidWhen will you learn that CDC data has serious time lags and does not give reliable numbers until at least a month afterward?
Old and vulnerable people die of infectious diseases, no1.
Hospitalizations, deaths and illnesses from infectious respiratory diseases are not that far above average for this time of year.
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/covid-data/covidview/index.html
Peruse Table 1 here for August, 2020: https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/COVID19/index.htm
It shows about 25,000 COVID deaths out of a total of approximately 235,000 or almost double the usual 5-6% deaths from "infectious respiratory diseases" shown in your prior graph. And the percent of expected deaths is about 117%, which yields an excess annual death count of something like 330,000.
I know just a few old folks, no big deal.

The Donald has been hospitalized. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/trump-covid-19-live-updates-president-arrives-at-walter-reed-medical-center/ar-BB19D0CI?li=BBnb7Kz
He's a lowlife scum, but I wish him a speedy recovery so he can "enjoy" the beating he is going to receive on November 3rd.

@sh76 saidYour "most likely scenario" just went down the tubes as Trump has been hospitalized.
I trust this is self-evident, but this is a massive boon for Trump's re-election chances.
Most likely scenario:
In two weeks, he'll have a whole ceremony in the Rose Garden where he and Melania exit quarantine and he'll announce that just like he and Melania did, the country as a whole is beating COVID. That will also take a bite out of the silly narrative that cases, in a ...[text shortened]... t position that COVID isn't worth shutting the economy down over.
The schadenfreude is premature.
Moreover, early polling looks pretty bad for him:
"Following President Donald Trump’s announcement that he and first lady Melania Trump contracted the coronavirus, a POLITICO/Morning Consult flash poll found that 6 in 10 voters believe the president did not take the proper precautions to protect himself from infection."
"Fewer voters, though still a majority of 53 percent, fault the president personally for his diagnosis, which was announced just before 1 a.m. on Friday. That’s compared with a little over a third who say Trump is not at fault for contracting the virus."
