@no1marauder saidAnother poll to consider for those thinking this is a "massive boon for Trump's re-election chances" (to quote sh76):
Your "most likely scenario" just went down the tubes as Trump has been hospitalized.
Moreover, early polling looks pretty bad for him:
"Following President Donald Trump’s announcement that he and first lady Melania Trump contracted the coronavirus, a POLITICO/Morning Consult flash poll found that 6 in 10 voters believe the president did not take the proper precautio ...[text shortened]... ng the virus."
https://www.politico.com/news/2020/10/02/poll-trump-coronavirus-precautions-425571
"A CNN poll conducted by SRSS determined that 63 percent of American adults said Trump acted irresponsibly in handling the risk of infecting people who had been around him with COVID-19. Thirty-three percent considered the president's actions responsible, while 4 percent said they didn't have an opinion.
The viewpoint that Trump acted irresponsibly about the risk of infecting others extended across most demographic lines, including voter groups the president is trying to woo ahead of the November election."
"Disapproval of Trump's handling of the overall coronavirus outbreak reached a new high of 60 percent in the poll, while 37 percent approved."

@earl-of-trumps saidWell good for him though few people get to go home to a full time medical staff of about two dozen persons at their beck and call. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_House_Medical_Unit
As of this post, (8:00 pm GMT -5) Trump has left Walter Reed Medical Center.
Naturally, that hasn't stopped him from making irresponsible and idiotic statements downplaying the severity of COVID. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/dont-be-afraid-of-covid-trump-says-undermining-public-health-messages/ar-BB19JwFD?li=BBnb7Kz

@earl-of-trumps saidI get the impression that’s exactly what No1 would say to Trump.
You just *have* to say something dooshie, don't you
@earl-of-trumps saidWell, when Trump does something "dooshie", it kinda follows.
You just *have* to say something dooshie, don't you
In a blatant attempt to manipulate the election, Donald Trump is pressuring pharmaceutical companies to rush vaccines to market ahead of Nov 3, in clear violation of FDA regulations designed to ensure that vaccines are thoroughly tested in order to identify and minimize safety risks (including long-term side effects). This should set off alarm bells for everyone, not only for anti-vaxers.

The President on Tuesday also made his most flagrant public attempt yet to force regulators to accelerate the approval of several Covid-19 vaccines that are currently being trialed in an effort to help his own reelection prospects. The move followed a CNN report that the President had been personally pressuring drug companies to deliver on a vaccine before Election Day.
"New FDA Rules make it more difficult for them to speed up vaccines for approval before Election Day. Just another political hit job!" Trump tweeted at US Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn. FDA rules require several months to elapse after patients are administered the last dose of a prototype vaccine to ensure there are no serious side effects. The practice is designed to maximize public trust in a vaccine -- the best hope of ending the pandemic -- that polls show has already been dented by Trump's politicization of the issue.

In case some people here are too young to remember a previous rushed-vaccination fiasco ahead of a presidential election, here's the story:

@moonbus saidOne can now imagine distilled water-filled syringes, being distributed as de facto vaccine, solely to placate the office of "His Stupidency".

Republicans will be praying for a mass placebo while real people will be dying.
There have been so many incidences of cowardice during this administration that I've lost count.

He's not even over it yet and already he thinks he's got immunity. The man's as thick as two short planks.

Did ya all see the nutter wheezing and gasping for breath on the White house’s balcony?
Seriously. The man is too stupid to be left unattended... and too infectious to get near to...
If he was a dog he’d have been put down by now.

Of note are the psychological side effects.
From a clinical perspective, should he be temporarily transitioning power to the VP ?
