Thanks to the Labour 'Welfare State' policies there are now 2.4 million living on permanent 'incapacity benefit', and another 1.5 million on unemployment benefit. Meanwhile we have to import willing workers from Eastern Europe to fill all the vacant jobs which are spurned by the 4 million idlers, thereby creating severe pressures on our already over-stretched public services such as housing, education, and the infamous NHS.
That's what socialism does for you.

Should people be forced to work ?
Should we stop importing in people for the jobs that no one else wants to do ?
The immigrates are providing a service to this country, so if they pay taxes, they have every right for health care etc.
Fundenmentally some people are just too lazy, not sure if you watch wife swap on C4, but the other day it showed a farmer that earned less money then some confused umeployed married women (who had a girlfriend also)....so what incentive is their for people to work.
I slave my guts out working, but after taxes, morgage, bills, London living costs, not much is left.....
Headline: Incapacity benefit claims still on the rise
text: the overall total for incapacity benefit claims remained relatively stable, rising from 2.42 million to 2.43 million.
past figures:
Nov-03 2.78 million (peak)
Nov-04 2.77 million
Nov-05 2.71 million
Aug-06 2.68 million

Rising? Or falling?
Add on about another 40000 for the pensioners who receive IB.
Why pensioners should get IB I do not know.
The post that was quoted here has been removedYou sounded fairly level headed until you came out with this outrageously far right comment. You should have been around during the Nazi era, you would have loved it.
It's a shame because I agreed with you before you said that, and your bizzar comment discredits both you and your argument.

Why bother?

Unfortunately in the States, the progressives believe that it is. But even more insdious is the fact that some progressives have found this is the way to create a permanent voter base, we will keep creating government programs for you if you keep voting us into office.
Now they are trying to corral the illegal immigrants in as well, but illegal immigrants can't vote. This is a problem, solution, amnesty for the illegal immigrants and they become citizens.
Of course, adding 8 to 20 million to programs that are already strained to the max will cause them to collapse. So what, think the progressive politicians, we can be in office till it all falls down. Or we will raise the cigarette tax another $5 per pack

And even if many of them could work, would they be as productive as our Eastern Eurpean friends?
If you want a prosperous nation - forcing invalid's to contribute to the economy will not work.
