@eladar saidExcept in some parts of the State such offices are only open a few hours a month to do everything like driver's licenses, renewals, etc. etc.
A Texas Department of Public Safety only open one day a week? It is an official state agency. They are in pretty much every city. I wonder if you can understand what that means when it comes to having to go to just one city.
In any case, as you can see, the claim that poor people in certain parts of the state cannot get ID due to having to travel over a hundred miles is not true. Now there is no reason why everyone in Texas cannot get a state ID.
@no1marauder saidCould you provide a link to such places? While you are at it, how about a link to the closest site that holds typical hours.

These Department of Public Safety are in many different cities.

@earl-of-trumps saidI'm fine with it except with your allegation that there is widespread "cheating" that Voter ID would prevent. It would have to be something like this, however:
Ok, let's say ID's cost $10 to make. Let's make them FREE to the people.
200 million voters, TOPS. That's $2 billion total. Piece of cake for the big-wig spenders
What say ye, libs, progs and other whiners... what excuse do you have now to stop Voter ID and get cheaters OUT
"I propose a national identification card to be issued by the government to all citizens of the United States when they turn 16. This identification would serve not only as required voter identification when someone reaches voting age, it would also serve as their voter registration."
"Following the 2000 election, the Carter-Baker commission issued a number of recommendations, including voter identification if — and this is an important condition — all persons are given identification.
Having the government take responsibility for voter registration is actually a very old idea. It is how elections were run during America’s first century as a country. Local governments created lists of the people who owned property or paid taxes, which defined the eligible voters.
Making the government responsible for registering voters again would solve many election administration problems. True universal registration would obliterate the burden on individuals to register, and to re-register whenever they move. Numerous studies find reducing voter registration costs increases voter turnout. Democracy works best when its citizenry is engaged."

This would stop making people jump through hoops to vote which is really the primary object of recent voter suppression laws.

Any links to specific offices that are only open a couple of hours each week?
If not, then I must assume your claim is a lie.
@eladar saidGFY.

Look at the links Mott provided.
I guess since Trump got in and shamelessly lied so much, it has now become a staple of right wing drones to make claims other people "lie" even though they can be easily and quickly disapproved.

That's refreshing. So with 80% of the people for it, why doesn't it get done? The only pols against are democrats, mostly.

@no1marauder saidThat is for drivers ed, not for the office. Or does that office only offer drivers ed courses?

In anycase, you are talking about a city of fewer than 600 people.
Texas is reaching out to those areas, so they do not need to make a great effort.

Nice try, but pulling very small towns where you could not survive if someone did not travel to places like El Paso to bring in food just goes to show you are grasping at straws.
But as you can see, Texas has taken steps to make sure people who live out there have an opportunity to get an ID.
@earl-of-trumps saidGuess you didn't read the Rand Paul quote I already provided.

At any rate, it's a red herring - 36 States already have a Voter ID requirement yet right wingers still won't accept the results there if they lose.
@no1marauder saidVoter ID requirement is only a requirement if it required for all votes.
