@averagejoe1 saidSurely you must have a remedy
I was only throwing a little levity in when I said "Only owners of Real estate should vote!", I know y'all are still smartin' over the EPA ruling, among others.
But should not voters at least have some skin in the game? Be paying taxes? Yes, I know they pay tax when they buy a coke/hamburder, (Pepsi up north), to eat and drink to stay alive. But if someone wanders ...[text shortened]... , I would like to know them. Hurry up, I have coffee group at 9AM! Will spread the learned comments.
for the MASSIVE TAX AVOIDANCE SCHEMES
that I posted to begin this thread.....
YES?.....NO?.....DON'T KNOW?
@averagejoe1 saidFACT IS................
But what is your definition...I asked first.
1% of the population control over 50% of the wealth.

@averagejoe1 saidLOL you say the government should use tax revenue to create jobs and expand society while calling others' Marxist? That's rich.
I see it as creating jobs and expanding society. The co-founder of Home Depot gave $300M to Atlanta to build the 2nd largest aquarium in the world. I went there, and saw just average blue collar folks and their families everywhere. What a wonderful venue/. I love rich people, we need more of them. Do you work for a rich person? I think probably so. The majority of p ...[text shortened]... have their own car? A simple few questions here, Please don't Marauder-ize them, or Kev-ize them.
@averagejoe1 saidAside from just plain cruel, you're penny wise and pound foolish. The cost of social welfare programs for the unemployed and indigent are but a drop in the bucket compared to the money wasted on a bloated military, corporate welfare, and huge tax cut schemes for the lucky few who are rolling in tens, hundreds, or thousands of millions of dollars. And then there are the huge bureaucracies and red tape that Republicans, especially, build up around social welfare programs that hobble their efficiency while doing next to nothing to carry out their purported mission of filtering out frauds enrolled in the programs ("welfare queens" in Rethug parlance). These are all things that drain far and away more resources from government coffers than your imagined legions of lazy people who just don't want to work.
Soothfast apparently thinks life should be perfect for everyone, maybe a society where everyone is equal. Me, I say the USA should totally cover support of destitute people in this country. The other folks have a lot of opportunities and can certainly find the 'income' you speak of, there are 11M jobs unfilled today. As to discrimination, I don't quite know what you mea ...[text shortened]... a really good analogy, I think. No one would answer it. Why not? Why don't libs answer questions?
As for the charge that I think life should be perfect for everyone, that's just nonsense. First, why should I not wish for that? And second, it's irrelevant to the discussion at hand. Even the antiquated US Constitution speaks of ever striving to "form a more perfect Union," which I reckon puts you King George III's court against the champions of democracy. You're just perfect for today's Christo-fascist GOP.

@sergeantpmain saidYeah, like TRUMP, never held a job in his life.
Welfare, It needs a complete overhaul. Too many worthless trash are drawing welfare, which are more than able to work.
@averagejoe1 saidTo this issue, which I guess is what you're mainly on about in this particular thread, towns don't usually get their revenue from an income tax in the US. Some monies may come from the county, state, or federal government. Most revenue comes from businesses operating within city limits, and also property taxes. However, in Pennsylvania (where I live) there is a local income tax of around 1%. In California (where I used to live) there is no local income tax.
Example: A bunch of border crossers all end up living in a small town . They make up 52% of the populace. None pay taxes. The town plans a roller skate park that is iffy among the citizens. Some vote no. The 52% join up and vote on the park, it passes. The park is built. Hey....talk about No Skin In The Game!!
Suzianne: "Hey, you. got a point there, AvJoe. You are stupid, but gotta hand it to you. I'd be mad, I don't skate!!"
Anyway, to your dystopian nightmare concerning layabouts forcing a city to build a skate park -- oh, what have we come to!? -- it was indeed the call of a majority of voters to fund such a project. If you don't like it, well, too bad. But I'm sure there are nuances to the story that you have whitewashed. Perhaps skaters were damaging public and private property trying to skate where they could, and it was determined that a skate park would quickly pay for itself. Perhaps there was the realization that an amenity such as a skate park makes for a nicer town overall, thereby lifting all boats with higher property values and such.
Skaters are usually preteens and teenagers, incidentally. Should toddlers be made to work in a factory in order to get a teeter-totter in the town park? Good grief...

@SERGEANTPMAIN
So what do you want? ZERO fed government? So we have 50 separate countries?

@sonhouse saidIt would be better for the rest of the world, at least.

@soothfast saidClassic lib missing an issue. The issue is should people who don't pay into the tax till vote on how the money in the tax till is used.

Whew. If some little old ladies have a bridge club and are voting on whether to buy some flowers, should the ladies who will not pa their dues be able to vote on whether to spend the money or not?
You say 'Perhaps' a couple of times. I have no 'perhaps' in the question. Lib city, adding and changing issues. I Asked vivify a while back if I should pay for my neighbor's abortion, I awaited a yes or no answer, but he curiously wrote "what if your son had impregnated her". Funny stuff, huh. It parallels your saying perhaps. There is no perhaps. Take all your fluff out, and you have a bunch of town newcomers who don't pay taxes deciding on whether a park gets built. Too complicated?
Geez. You are a confused bunch. Keep 'em coming, I have to go catch up with Sonhouse, have you seen his latest?

@wildgrass saidI just thought, dam, did I say that?? Of course I did not. I did not say govt do anything, contrare', I am always saying for them to get out of the way.
LOL you say the government should use tax revenue to create jobs and expand society while calling others' Marxist? That's rich.
You know I did not say that, and I wonder why you think that . Read it again, and tell us what you are looking for??
@averagejoe1 saidWell JO, do you think TRUMP should be
what is democracy ?
able to use the assets and services that he avoids paying taxes on?
