If you observe the function and resulting lack of performance regarding the majority in any socialism free capitalist state economy you have to find reasons for its ability to sustain itself.
The best one I’ve come across does involve a general strategy of creating divisions within the population, obvious candidates racial, ethnic, sectarian and cultural divides. The more capitalism is unchecked in any given state economy the more apparent and corrosive these divisions seem to be.
That’s not to say communism is the answer but probably both philosophies have their good points and down sides. I think dystopia arises when you go purist with either philosophy.
