How about fed up with being betrayed by the Republican party that supposedly is for reducing the size and reach of the Federal Government and yet during the entire GW Bush administration has done just the opposite. By involving us in an unnecessary, costly, and endless war in Iraq all the while driving up expenditures on social programs and the like at home. Like Sasquatch I'm a Goldwater/Reagan conservative and I'm actually looking forward to end of the Bush administration.

You simply cannot vote for either of the two major parties and expect anything other than superficial change. Vote Libertarian. Vote anythng other than Democrat or Republican.

Hey, I support this war, but have no delusion that it is preserving American freedom, does that make me a "THICK american"?

And while I don't have kids, some of my better friends are in the army, I certainly don't want them to die, but it is a risk they choose to take, for reasons I agree with, so I don't think we should back down out of cowardice.

There are lots of 'shoulds' in there, when really the post you were replying to seemed to be more about whether there was a CHOICE between working and not working.

Personally I'm not comfortable with a society where a couple can't sit down, look through the economics and decide that one of them (either one) is going to stay at home and dedicate themselves full-time to raising children, because they value that higher than additional dollars. If the additional dollars are needed just to get by, then that choice has been removed.

You pose a good question, my friend. A good question indeed. The answer, you say? Give me some time.

Is it right that Congressional Republicans criminally neglect their constitutionally-mandated role to oversee the executive branch, because Bush is 'their guy'?
This is the one that really struck me. It's one area where the constitutional situation in America is markedly different from here in Australia and the UK. It seems to have been a conscious choice when America was founded to keep the legislative and executive branches separate, whereas they are somewhat fused in the UK and arguably even moreso in Australia in practice.

I really don't know any of the details of what's happening in America re accountability of the executive, but it's clear that your tradition is for Congressmen and women to be able to criticise a President of the same political persuasion. If you're heading in our direction, towards party solidarity being valued over constitutional roles, then I can only say that in my opinion it's a bad direction to head.

Is not the title of this thread an effort to support the defeat of the US and thus indirectly support the beheaders?

"When Will Americans Get Fed Up?"

Don't take it personally, Mike accuses eveybody who disagrees with him of being a communist. I believe he grew up in an era when the 'commies' were the enemy (and a scary one at that), and such tactics were prevalent and successful.
