@Suzianne saidIn 1975, Biden was representing a state where one of the first major urban school desegregation plans had been ordered by a court. Many white parents in the Wilmington area were angry. In response, Biden sponsored not just the bill limiting courts’ power but also an amendment to an appropriations bill that barred the federal government from withholding funding from schools that remained effectively segregated.
He didn't say that.
Jesus, arguing with you morons is exactly like talking to five-year-olds.
The amendment went beyond the busing issue, affecting school systems that effectively separated students by race whether or not they used busing. Co-sponsors included segregationist Sens. Jesse Helms, R-N.C., and Strom Thurmond, R-S.C. The amendment passed the Senate on a 50-43 vote, including majorities of both Democrats and Republicans. (Biden was not alone among northern Democrats who supported it — in that group, 14 supported the amendment and 26 opposed it, according to the Congressional Quarterly.)

The Senate voted 50 to 43 to attach an anti‐busing provision offered by Senator Joseph Biden, Democrat of Delaware, to a $36.2‐billion appropriations bill, after defeating a more sweeping version offered by Senator Jesse Helms, Republican of North Carolina.
The Senate voted 48 to 43 to table Helms amendment, which would have also prevented H.E.W. from keeping any “records, files, reports or statistics” needed to even identify segregated school systems.

@Metal-Brain saidWtf is your point here?

@Metal-Brain saidBussing didn't make them better.
Racial Jungle Joe didn't want to solve the problem. That is why he sided with open segregationists to end busing without making black schools better.
@Metal-Brain saidThat sounds awfully like an interpretation to me.
Busing was an effort to coerce desegregation. It served no other purpose.
Biden fought the goal of desegregation. That is exemplified by the fact he sided with the segregationists in congress.
Biden could have fought segregation to end busing. Instead he fought busing to continue segregation. He was obviously against the goal. Biden's "racial Jungle" quote is not something a de-segregationist would say. Anybody who says otherwise is in denial for partisan reasons.
Why would Biden oppose desegregation? I can imagine opposing busing (shouldn't that be two s's though... I dunno...) because it's a strange method which doesn't really tackle underlying issues. But I cannot fathom Biden being pro-segregation.
However, it was 50 years ago. Perhaps he did and has changed opinion since? You know, matured, gotten wiser, that sort of thing?
@Metal-Brain saidCan't you believe anything you didn't pick up from some conspiracy rag like Global Research?
Can't you read?
@shavixmir saidI've argued this with MB the first time he brought this up. Clearly he doesn't remember anything I told him then, either, like not agreeing with bussing doesn't mean you're against desegregation. Simple minds like his just equate the two because it's easier to remember.
That sounds awfully like an interpretation to me.
