It's absolutely ridiculous to turn this BOY into a pariah, he obviously needs psychological help. There are no grounds to try him as an adult. Illinois state law states that any crime in which a handgun is used by a someone 15 or older must go to adult court. The same goes for sexual crimes in which the accused is at least 15 and the victim is younger than ...[text shortened]... and now they might be paid every time they arrest someone. Doesn't seem like a very nice town.
Neither of those links seem to work for me.

I disagree. This young man is popular among his peers. If the courts let this young man slip through the cracks, it will prompt other young men and women to act without disregard for the laws.

True, this man does need psychological help; but further, incarceration is warranted. It sends a strong message to the communities, if you commit a crime, be prepared to do the time.

with respect to the Illinois state law stating any crime in which a handgun is used by someone 15 years plus; It's my recommendation for the next couple years, this young man be held in juvenile detention, undergo psychological testing, then face the charge as an adult.

Sexual crimes is an entirely different subject matter. It does not pertain to this case. I will say, if any individual, regardless of age has broken the law, regardless of state, country, providence etc... then he or she must face the music.

The laws were put into place for many reasons; but most importantly to protect our Providences, Countries, States, etc... Otherwise, what is the point of creating the laws, if we don't enforce them. On a small scale, it is like saying to your son or daughter, if you are not home by midnight you will be grounded for one week. 12:30a.m. rolls around when finally you hear your child trying to sneak in. Caught in the act, you simply say i'm glad your home have a good night. This contradicts your stance or arrangement with the child; and further confuses your child, becasue now he or she thinks its okay to continue this rebellious behaviour.

This is not a child. He may not have hurt anyone physically; but how do you know he didn't emotionally. I'm certain, the teller was shaken by this incident and may require medical assistance. If the system does not step in and take preventive measures now, this young man may seriously injure or even murder someone.

That is the most ridiculous thing ever.

Regardless of age? You would send a child to prison? Why don't we just go back to Middle Ages and hang 10 year olds.

The laws were put into place for many reasons; but most importantly to protect our Providences, Countries, States, etc...

A lot of laws currently in place do more harm than good. (like the Three-Strikes Law, for example) The media sensualizes crime, instilling fear in the ignorant mob. Politicians than exploit this fear with a "get tough on crime" mentality. Implementing policies that make it look like they are fighting crime while allowing them to ignore all the issues that cause crime in the first place.

Otherwise, what is the point of creating the laws, if we don't enforce them.

There is no law for sending 13 year olds to prison.

This is not a child.

This is certainly not an adult.

I'm certain, the teller was shaken by this incident and may require medical assistance.

Please...medical assistance, really....😞

There should definitely be preventive measures, but something that will help him instead of making him more criminal.

That is the most ridiculous thing ever.

This is the most ridiculous rebuttal ever. Support your statement with stats and facts. Here let me help you. In 1998, one-third of all victims of violent crime were teenagers ages 12-19. Almost 50% of all violent crimes were committed by persons under the age of 25. Homicide was the second leading cause of deaths for 15-24 year olds. In 2006, 1,539 murder victims were under the age of 18. Those committing homicide, 1,111 were offenders under the age of 18. 15% of all arrests in 2006 were done to individuals under the age of 18.

Next, regardless of age? That is correct. Yes, I would send a child to prison. Wish we could go back to the Middle ages. Save tax payers a lot of money and time, rid the crooked attorneys and judges etc...

Again, you make a statement without support. Which law(s) are currently in place that do more harm than good. Three-Strike Law is a gift. It should be reduced to the one-strike law. Criminals sensualize crime. The media just reports. If the criminal did not commit the crime, the media would not report it. People should be fearful of committing crime. Ignorance is not an excuse anymore. People (criminal minded) know what they are getting into. Their hope is not getting caught.

Here is one example of a 13 year old going to prison for life. Yes there are laws in place to protect victims regardless of age. In 1989, someone raped a 72-year-old woman in Pensacola, Fla. Joe Sullivan was 13 at the time, and he admitted that he and two older friends had burglarized the woman’s home earlier that day. But he denied that he had returned to commit the rape. The victim testified that her assailant was “a colored boy” who “had kinky hair and he was quite black and he was small.” She said she “did not see him full in the face” and so would not recognize him by sight. But she recalled her attacker saying something like, “If you can’t identify me, I may not have to kill you.” At his trial, Mr. Sullivan was made to say those words several times. “It’s been six months,” the woman said on the witness stand. “It’s hard, but it does sound similar.” The trial lasted a day and ended in conviction. Then Judge Nicholas Geeker, of the circuit court in Escambia County, sentenced Mr. Sullivan to life without the possibility of parole.

Please...medical assistance, really....😞 Exactly how I feel about letting this young man off lightly 🙄

finally, we can agree. Preventive measures can be taken. I believe it begins in the home. A suggestion would be for schools to implement a program educating kids of the danger of violent crime or crime period. Instead, schools are more interested in spending more money to feed the egos of the sports-minded people rather the entire student body.
