Oops! I misread the OP and listed Supertramp’s Breakfast in America, which I actually was still listening to ending the year 1980.

1980 was the year I left my parent’s home and set out on my own...it was also the year I decided I wanted to be just like Debbie Harry, as this song was emerging in December 1980:

The Tide is High

This is probably my least favorite Stones album, but I remember listening to:

- "Emotional Rescue"

That was also the year that I first discovered U2:

- "I Will Follow"

Huge.

My desert island 1980 album.

Add to that,

Queen
Devo
The Ramones
The Sex Pistols
Pat Benetar
Music from “The Rocky Horror Picture Show”

And everything John Lennon on the radio as we were still reeling over his tragic death earlier in the month of December 1980.

Sacred Songs by Daryl Hall, 1980

Not aware of this DH album. I love their work from the mid 70s , think 'Abandoned Luncheonette' is a great album (especially side 1)

Then, like a lot of US groups, they went all 'poppy', and lost it ( but probably sold lots more albums)!

I see, though released in 80, this was made in 77. Will give it a listen

You're mistaken if you think I am interested in your shallow bonhomie. You strike me as a poster of adolescent fluff.

And there was me thinking that we are all adult enough to leave our internet differences aside on totally different threads.

I find this one quite interesting, genuinely loved the music of Hall and Oates in the mid 70s and wondered if you, as a fan, had anything constructive to say about their descent into pop/disco tat.

Clearly, I over estimated you..

At least we can see where the other half of Legion of Doom is.

Being into this kind of stuff at school, rather than things like Pink Floyd's Wall and Genesis' Duke, was really essential ven diagram stuff.

Does this actually mean anything?

What has The Wall and Duke got to do with Ven(sic) diagrams?

Ian Dury & The Blockheads - Laughter.

New Boots was seminal for me and Do It Yourself was even more important musically as it exposed me to more stylistic horizons.

I liked Laughter at the time but looking back now, it was definitely weaker than its predecessors.

What music released in 1980 would you have been listening to as that year approached its end forty years ago?
Sara - Fleetwood Mac

XTC - Black Sea

With their first two albums, which were interesting enough, I could kind of take it or leave it.

Black Sea, for me, was where all the brilliance really got started.

The B-52's - Wild Planet

Their best album. Singing songs from this album to myself sustained me as I walked the Pennine Way in the Summer of 1980.
