Sorry, this is just so much style over substance. It browses the web, it acts like an e-reader, it's not as functional as a laptop I can get for the same money. What's the point?
And why is Steve Jobs, a man with such serious aesthetic design credentials, unable to dress himself in anything other than clothes his mum picked out for him?
Edit - I don't get this obsession with the man's clothing. Especially when you're attacking them for being style over substance. Ad induviaem? 😵

$499 is the base model - no 3G and only 16GB memory.

They haven't released UK pricing but history suggests it will be 50% more than the US prices, plus I imagine there would be a bit extra to pay for a decent warranty. Maybe £600 is a bit of an over estimate but I reckon it won't be far off what we'd pay for one over here.
other than that, it seems like a very cool idea

I'm not much of an apple fan, but I think ipad has some promise. you can do everything you're REALLY gonna do on the move, which is maybe browse web, watch porn and write an email or three. NOBODY really does any real work on a laptop, which is far too heavy to be comfortably dragged around anyway. the only people who do real work on a laptop, do it at home, using it EXACTLY like they'd use a workstation. a laptop really isn't portable, the ipad looks like it might be.
I could even picture myself reading something from an ipad rather than a huge tome in bed. thick books in bed are always a horrible nuisance, you never get a good relaxed position. but no way for the price they're asking. a 100e maybe, and even that mostly because I'm a tech geek.

It is ten years old but still does everything I need to do. It looks good, it will go for ten hours on two fresh batteries, the keyboard is better than any other I have ever used, the screen is a sensible size and it cost me £50 on eBay. It doesn't have a touch screen but I am not keen on touch screen stuff. I just need to watch my oaf of a son getting stressed by his iPhone to convince me that touch screen technology is a step too far for an old Luddite like me.

you better not say "watching porn movies to review them." 😀
