Did you have a good social life at university, etc.
Did you have any fun?
I would have you know that I don't have a social life outside the college itself, no one ever calls me, nothing, no one has ever loved me, ever, and my life has lost all of its meaning.
I have extracted practically no fun from my life at all over the last year and I am completely hopeless about the whole situation. :'(
edit: and then there will this summer, 9 weeks of being totally isolated from all of my friends I know only at college, not outside it.

Now you tell me how I can be happy about this said situation. π

Until I was old enough to drive a car, I had to take the city bus 2 hours and 15 minutes each way every day to get to school. I did not go to school during the summer. I worked about 40-50 hours a week in the summers and played baseball. I played baseball in high school and in college as well.
Also, how old were you at the time you went to university.
Did you have a job whilst you were at school?
I am aware that your education system is taken to 18 and it is free until this point? Am I right?
Did you have to work during this time?
I was 18 when I entered college. In college, I averaged 40 hours a week during the off season for baseball. I took an average course load of 16 hours per semester during the spring and fall sessions and I took 12 hours durning the summer session. I double majored in Electrical Engineering and Business Management.
I worked and went to school year round. I also graduated with honors, not that that means anything, just didn't want you to think I slipped by. So stop your whining and get on with it. The world isn't going to wait for you.

Shortcircuit.
I am 17, I am not at 'college' as you keep putting it. π
It is different here.
You said earlier: I worked a full 40 hour work week WHILE I got my college degree---for four years.
In response to my reasons about not having a job yet.
Well I'm not at that level yet, so your comparison is meaningless, I'm not in 'college' in your context, so you can't use that as a reason to put me down.
edit: As well as any other comparisons you make about working for such long hours whilst at college.
I have never understand why in America College means the same as university...π
Originally posted by shortcircuitOkay, let's get the details down, whilst you were in school, up until the age of 16, for you, how much of those 20 hours did you work?

Then, how much between 16-18, before college?
Here there are strict rules with regards to people under 16 working.
You must not work:-
* during school hours on any school day
* for more than two hours on any school day or for more than 12 hours in any week in which you are required to go to school
* for more than two hours on a Sunday
* for more than eight hours (five hours if you are under 15) on any day which is not a school day or a Sunday
* before 7am or after 7pm
* for more than 35 hours (25 if you are under the age of 15) in any week in which you are not required to go to school
* for more than four hours in any day without a break of one hour
* at any time, if during the 12 months beginning 1 January, working means that you have not had two uninterrupted weeks of holiday from school.

Now then, let's get one thing straight....I did not set out to "put you down". You brought this on by first extolling your rights which haven't yet been earned, then by whining about the life of the royals which you are quite jealous of apparently, then you backed your arguement up by saying you have never had a job and how you are only 17 and not willing to work during school because you have no time. I merely told you that you were full of yourself and you needed to get up off your butt and get on with life rather than whining about "how rough" you have got it. If I didn't like you, I wouldn't waste my breath and my typing on you. I just can't stomach it when people tell me "I can't" when what they really mean is "I don't want to". You seem to be a smart kid. Before you attempt to debate me on this topic any further, why not think about what I have said? This is a debate that you won't win anyway. The world is what you make of it. No one is going to walk up and hand you wealth and power (you are not a royal, right?). I am not speaking from speculation but from actual life experiences. You do with it what you will, but if you are smart, you will quickly change your way of thinking, and try and make something of your life. You don't seem real emamored with the one you have have created, right? Have a nice day.

But maybe I should have got a job the summer after my last exams in high school...
I've explained my reasoning for not wanting a job now, sunlight and such π
*sigh* maybe I'll get one this summer. π

I don't think someone your age absolutely has to get a job, but if you dread the summer because you don't have friends and you don't have anything meaningful to do, getting a summer job might not be so bad. If you are worried not to get enough sun, try to find something where you can work outside at least part of the time. And if you feel lonely, maybe try to find something where you work with people, e.g. working in kindergarten or taking old people for walks (these would combine working with people and working outside at least part of the time). If you are depressive, not doing anything will make things worse.

Nothing can make you more depressed than to be forced thinking about it. Do something to change your mind, even if you don't fancy doing anything at all. Just to aim your mind at something different every now and then, that helps a lot. And maybe even doing things you might or still might not like, something nice happens which can help one over the depressed feelings by replacing it with hopefull or even enjoyable thoughts.
