Dunkirk was very, very good too.
How did US take to it?
The war film that made the biggest impression on me was maybe Thin Red Line.

Choose one.

Nothing will beat An Officer and A Gentleman.
My list is of films I've seen at least 4 times.
Films that can stand viewing again.
Picking the best would depend on which way the wind was blowing.

I have watched "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" at least four times. It stood being viewed again. And the wind blew every time.

There is no one movie I like best, but I have favourites in various genres. My favourite comedies, consistently funny, are:

The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are coming

Spinal Tap

Waking Ned Devine

I watched it once out of curiosity and was very underwhelmed. I'd probably put 'When Harry Met Sally' before that as I've watch it several times and I always enjoyed Billy Crystal's class performance. Not a fan of Meg Ryan though.

Spinal Tap, how could I forget.

Also 'Life of Brian' would probably be my desert island movie.

I've never seen it.

I'm not a fan of romance as a topic for being entertained so I supposed I've deselected watching movies with that theme.

chaney3,

Come on that is a low blow...He as a rule is staying between 200 points of his rating.

How would you feel if some of the experts picked on your rating? ( This wouldn't happen as they have too much class to do that)
