I was thinking to myself, we should show a gesture of goodwill and allow him back onto the website.
After all, we live in a society bounded by rules but with the underlying principle that a man can change and become a better person when those rules are applied to him.
I think he has done his time now and is ready to be rehabilitated into the world of red hot pawn.
Who is with me?
Originally posted by TyrannosauruschexThere is no good part of your argument. It's stupid, makes no sense, and is garbage. If you want to play an engine so bad, fire it up. RHP isn't going to be better by having a known cheat come back.
Come on, get serious. Red hot pawn could EASILY be the biggest correspondence site on the net, the subscription is far cheaper then any other chess site and you get a whole load of great features for your money.
The only thing that I think holds it back is the draconic system of bans, I think it scares some potential members away. If a major off ...[text shortened]... out joining.
Thats the good part to my arguement - it would be good for the site as a whole.
If you were serious about him needing to forward his moves for review, you may want to consider consulting your doctor about the dosage of your medications.

He was rated about 1900 OTB, but as a correspondence player he was rated much higher. Would you like it if I were rated 600 points higher here because I decided to check ALL my moves with an engine as well as let it run over night figuring lines?
Good is good, but it's not an excuse to use a computer to help you think about each move.

I never said the guy was justified in using an engine.
I never said you should use an engine.
I never suggested engine use was justified.
All I did was repeat some information that I read on Cludi's blog. Information that frankly shocked me given the circumstances.

Here is the information from Cludi's blog repeated verbatim:
At this time, the best “player” on the site was, without comparison, IronMan31.
He was rated almost 2500 and to be fair, I think he was a good player in his own right (and a FIDE arbiter as well), but he couldn’t turn off the engine when he was about to move and was therefore one of the first users banned for 3(b) ever.
Originally posted by Red NightYeah, it is surprising. That has little to do with him being a good player, and like I said he's not THAT good.

Originally posted by Red NightThat is interesting and shocking at the same time. And the fact that he plays at other sites and still holds I assume a strong rating is also shocking. But what is also shocking is when I hear about masters finding ways OTB to do the same thing.

It's almost as if they were playing baseball and using steroids. 😞

I thought he was quite a popular personality and people might want to see him around again just to find out what he has been up to in these last couple of years and to hear his horrific tale of what it is like not to be able to play on red hot pawn.
