Should the crupet be voted "bread of the year"?

The first reference to a english crumpet recipe published in 1769 by Elizabeth Raffald in the book The Exprienced English Housekeeper called a picklet although in the 14th century" crompid cake"and The Cornish "Krampoth" meaning small oval pancake....The Welsh also claim that the English modified their recipe for "Welsh Cake" but that is obviously piffle and just the welsh being jealous.

I haven't had any crumpet in spring (reagrdless of specific starting date), so I presume t is not a real spring treat?

True but I would never ever dream of putting Marmite on a Crumpet.

I like them well toasted ,crisp on top so the butter oozes right through best jam topping has to be blackcurrant.with a nice cup of earl grey.

On Sunday I considered baking crumpets, but made scones instead (my wife liked them with orange marmelade).
