I personally know 4 UK citizens, all of whom my wife also knows. My wife works with 2 that I dont know, making a total of Ten Votes.

(I think... 3 English, 1 Scottish, 1 Welsh and 1 Irish...)

Like A Lot = 7
Like = 2
Don' Like = 1

I really can't speak for the other 260 million americans... Well, I guess I could, but I'm not sure they would appreciate it.
So what nationality is the one you don't like? 😉

That was my wife's vote acually. An English woman whom she works with. More to do with office politics than personal relationship I think.

Well, I think your analogy shows that you weren't paying close attention. One thing that became very clear in the weeks and months following the Sept 11 attacks was the intimate connection between the Taliban and Al-Qaeda. To take one example, Al-Qaeda fighters were a significant proportion of the Taliban's armed forces-- so the Taliban needed Al-Qaeda to maintain its hold on power. Further, Bin Laden helped finance the Taliban. How many IRA members are in the British army? How much money does the IRA donate to help the UK pay its bills?

The link with Iraq is tenuous, but the link with the Taliban was obvious.
