40% is not half of what they earn at all Freddie.

Leaving aside the obvious.

The first £5k is tax free.
The next £30k (approx) is taxed at 22%
Only after that is taxed charged at 40%

Whilst this is a lot, one way round paying super high salaries is to offer benefits such as private healthcare and pension schemes which avoid tax.

The richer you are the easier it is to avoid paying tax.

but people who use private healthcare still have to pay towards the NHS which then goes and spends the money on artwork 😕

but at least spending on artwork can be profitable

for instance, if you got Damien Hirst to cut Shav in half with a chainsaw and pickle the parts in formaldyhide, the NHS could make enough money by auctioning it off to pay for 1,000 hip replacement operations
