..and a percentage of those drank or took drugs or were unable to hold a job for reasons having nothing to do with military service and it is a generalized estimate from veteran groups who want funding ( i am a veteran of the army ) and some have commited crimes and are out on parole and some were evicted from their homes by the court for wife beating or child abuse...some carry "i am a veteran" cardboard signs as a scam as
they beg on the side of the freeway off-ramp...so let us not politicize the people on the street...they are there for many reasons...all people who ate carrots in 1848 are now dead so don't eat carrots...same conclusionary thinking...

As the USA celebrates it's Veterans Day, one must keep in mind that approx. 25% of US homeless are war verterans.

Veterans make up 11% of the population and 23% of the homeless population.
47% of homeless vets are vietnam era vets and 76% of homeless vets have drug, alcohol, or mental health problems.
