@very-rusty saidIf someone comes to you for help do you always say "See a professional" ?
I think if someone is really looking for help they should always seek out a professional. Not a bunch of people on a chess site chances are slim of finding one, although I understand we do have at least one known person who does help people.

@the-gravedigger saidAlmost certainly ... but not definitely.
He's trying to play us like a fiddle.
@whodey saidOh Lord! I have no adequate replies to thwart such a devastating revelation.
I heard that you were "the gerbil guy", but then, those are must rumors.
I guess I'll consult my "Whodeyisms for Dummies" handbook. A"must"!
Hmmm...maybe I'll require a little cerebral lubrication first, as whodey generally speaks just after pulling his head from his arse.

@very-rusty said.... and we never will but there are a number of options given here ranging from a chat over a game to a suicide helpline.
Agreed, but we don't know what the situation is with the OP as they didn't really make it clear on if they were suicidal.

@drewnogal saidIt’s plausible that a person who is lonely, desperate to reach out to someone and motivated to do so, would choose a chess website which is not advertised on google as having a forum at all, to register, play no chess whatsoever, start a thread in the general forum and disappear? Sorry, that is many things but it’s not what I would call plausible.
Do I honestly think it? Well it’s a plausible reason.
I agree with and support your heart and intent in this thread though Drew. And yes it is an interesting thread and yes it may benefit someone else. In short I mostly agree with you š
@the-gravedigger saidI’m a cynic, take no notice of me.
This is the interweb baby !

@wolfgang59 saidIt would depend on the situation after talking to the person I could evaluate that better. If I felt like I could help and person just needed someone to talk with and was feeling lonely fine, but if there was more to it like thinking about suicide, I certainly would suggest professional help.
If someone comes to you for help do you always say "See a professional" ?

@very-rusty saidRusty, we have the possibility of choosing whether to subscribe or not. Some of us do and some don't, for different reasons. I fail to see why one way would be better than the other - it's a personal choice.
Careful of what? It is the truth!!!
