Whatever you do, please don't turn into one of those sanctamonious ex-smokers who start coughing when someone else lights up.

I hate them.

EDIT:
Just thinking of them makes me want to take up smoking...just to piss them off.

You got a deal.
I remember those people and they never discouraged me one bit.

I think people can only quit when they are ready to. Nagging them before then just pisses them off. (as it did me)

Edit: to fix my crappy spelling

Interesting idea, but I'm not sure it would work for me. I always want a smoke after drinking a beer.

Hi Nick. Be careful about using phrases such as 'Free at last' after so short a time off the weed. I have fallen for this in the past and it has led me to start thinking such things as "Well... I'm not an addict anymore so a couple of cigs with a beer can't hurt..." Unfortunately for myself it turned out that nicotine addiction was like alcoholism - I ended up smoking the whole pack! If you're anything like me, then thinking you've conquered it is the first step in lowering your defences and ultimately starting again.
Of course, you're nature may be different to mine. πŸ™‚

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Do you still have that little cough once in awhile? Smokers cough. It's the body's reaction to the poison. That fluid you cough up is secreted to coat the impurities so you can hack them out.

After you stop having that cough you'll notice how many other people cough it up and then swallow it.

Thanks for the encouragement and advice. Once addicted, always addicted. I know I'll have to be on my guard for the rest of my life.
I've read several accounts where people had quit for YEARS and thought it was safe to "have just one" and they were back up to a pack a day within the week.

Yep, I'm in the "coughing up all the crap" phase right now.

Definately good motivation to not start again. I really wouldn't want to go through this again.

I believe that. One of the dangers is when you are around another smoker and it actually smells good to you! But the longer you don't smoke the stronger you become, and after awhile cigarette smoke will irritate you.
