@very-rusty saidSounds delightful sir.
Why are you NOT in the woods?
A peaceful place by the lake, quiet. I love it!!! Makes a nice retirement place for me.
A lot of my friends went to Florida to retire....I guess I like it right here in my little neck of the woods. Also our weather is just as nice as Florida sometimes even hotter which I don't like so much....LOL... I do enjoy the 4 seasons we have, als ...[text shortened]... es. Unfortantely people die there because they can't afford an operation. That is truely sad.

I still have you on ignore.
@ghost-of-a-duke saidThat is fine that you have me on ignore. I don't know why you put me on ignore? Obviously I must have said something to hurt your feelings. I can sometimes be very blunt as I am sure everyone who posts here knows. I am going to work on toning that down some, wish me luck. 😉

@ghost-of-a-duke saidWell done Sir there’s them that wouldn’t have.
Somehow I resisted a mother in law joke.
@very-rusty saidThat might be skewed by the fact that by the time somebody qualifies and practices psychology they may be past the danger period in terms of age. Suicide is age related for men in that younger men are more likely to commit suicide than older men.
Psychologist lower suicide rate:
In fact, the suicide rate for males was significantly lower than the rate for males in the general population at that time (i.e., 7.8 per 100,000 for psychologists and 24.9 per 100,000 for males in the general population). How the cause of death was determined in either study is unclear.Jun 1, 2011
Psychiatrist rate in a survey was much higher!....At the end of the day you may be better off going to the Psychologist. 😉

But perhaps their greater knowledge of coping mechanisms might give them some protection against suicidal tendencies found in the general population.
@Pianoman1
Instead of psychiatrist, maybe I should have said psychologist or psycho-therapist. I'm not so clear about the difference.
@torunn saidWell, psychologists tend to concentrate on therapies to treat emotional and mental problems, while psychiatrists (as qualified doctors) may also work with medications to treat such conditions. (But, of course, treatments vary from person to person).

The thing they have in common, however, is a shared desire to help people in a vulnerable state of existence.
@kevcvs57 saidThat does sound logical....There however is a big difference in the amount of suicides by psychiartrists which are higher than psychologists. No one seems to be able to give reasons as to why?

@torunn saidWell in Canada the Psychiatrist is paid alot more than the Psychologist.

I am assuming the Psychiatrist would be considered better, if you go by what they are paid.

@ghost-of-a-duke saidThank you.

My old Family Doctor sent me to a Psychiatrist as I was tired and drug out all the time this was years ago, as he couldn't figure out the problem so assumed it was all in my head.
The Psychiatrist after asking me some questions and talking to me for about all of 5 minutes suggested that I may have a sleep apnea. Had the test done and sure enough exactly what it was.
Got the z-pap machine and new one since then and wake up refreshed each day now, instead of drug out, like I once was. Made a big difference in my life for sure.
Funny though after all the blood tests my doctor sent me for and x-rays, turns out all he had to do is send me for that sleep disorder test.
Well I suppose I should also be thankful he sent me to the Psychiatrist!

@very-rusty saidYes, I think you should. I have close friends I can turn to when I'm worried and disturbed by things I - for some reason - cannot handle. They usually are not my problems but part of the family's and then I usually get involved. The thing is that my friends say different things and give different advice, if any at all, and I need an objective view and I am lucky one of my friends is a psycho-therapist even though she is very busy and not always available.

@very-rusty saidDo you think cutting and pasting some random stat from the internet has any meaning? If so, provide more details about this 'big difference.'

@ghost-of-a-duke saidDo you argue the stats that I found? If so give your reasons, I am here to listen and learn.

@very-rusty saidYes. What do the stats relate to? What country? How big was the sample? Is it a recent study?

Why not provide the link to where you found them?
