To maximize membership, I'd start a free porn link limited to players who have 10 or more active games.

I'd have real chess 960, with separate ratings and castling.

I'd have automatic forum tracking of threads I've posted in, and the option to track other threads of interest to me.

Clans would each have a team rating and that would be used to rank them for the year, along with a weighting rewarding greater activity.

The forums would have a robust PGN viewer.

Two words: rating floors!

I'd get the site promoted in online + printed chess periodicals across the world. (That damn wiki article would then write itself! Let some random guy grovel on about how awesome the site is now...)

I'd have automated cheat detection via engine match up, and boot the guilty off the site!!

The only thing I would do is change my name to "Russ" just to keep everyone guessing and wondering....! 🙂

I'd merge the Sports and Culture Forums with the General Forum ~ or more exactly, I'd close them down and add the words Sports and Culture to the description of the General Forum.

I'd introduce proper self moderation on the forums. Everyone would get a limited number of vetoes and any member getting a certain amount would get a ban. You'd be history.

But would they know the amount of vetoes in advance or would that happen after the fact. 😛

I would sell it to the Google for 800 million dollars, or to some Russian mobster for 200 million dollars.

Then I would retire at some Greek island, and the Russian will probably turn the site into online casino.
