Obviously, not every woman who has plastic surgery will get positive results. There's risks with any surgical procedure. Everyone knows the risks involved with plastic surgery, especially facelifts.
I've seen some beautiful fake titties, so I can't agree that they look "just plain wrong". I personally know a girl who went from a small A to nice full B/ ...[text shortened]... not regret the decision to get implants at all. So why is that tragic and why is she ill?
I really think I should have the bulk of my facial tissue paralyzed so that I couldn't smile. people who don't smile look cool & enigmatic. other people are interested in people who look cool & enigmatic. I'm sure that having people look at me like that would raise my self-esteem to rock star level. what an excellent idea, and not at all tragic. I'll get a frenulum implant while I'm at it.
"look at that huge bulging frenulum on that cool & enigmatic guy! he's a god amongst the men!"
who likes gigantic feet on women? I'm sure the women with huge feet have a lot of issues about them. and that's why we should bring back the good old tradition of foot reduction. just cut the sole, fold the foot and wrap tightly. in just a few year it won't even hurt much, and the women can wear the tiniest shoes. no more feeling awkward about huge bigfoot feet!
Originally posted by wormwoodEveryone knows the old method of foot reduction is horribly crippling and unsafe. If there were a safe, surgical means to reduce foot size in a full-grown adult I'm sure it would be a big winner with large-hoofed women.

If bigger breasts that don't sag with age or a smaller nose give women more confidence and self-esteem then more power to them - ther's nothing ill and tragic about that.
Unfortunately in many (most?) cases the boost of confidence that cosmetic surgery gives is short lived. This is because people often blame their unhappiness on a single focus (being overweight, having a big nose, not having a fast car...) instead of the real (and often less tangible) causes. When they fix that perceived cause they get a boost of confidence for a while, but only until they realise that their life is just as crap as it was before which is when it fades.
Because of this, cosmetic surgery rarely fixes a persons bad feelings about themselves (the obvious excepting being people who are disfigured to the extent that their appearance is a major cause of their problems).
This is also why cosmetic surgery can become 'addictive' - once they've felt it, people chase the feel good factor that keeps on fading, pushing them to have more and more work done with often less and less psychological or physical effect.

Originally posted by belgianfreakA good point, BF. There's definitely a dangerous and unattractive side to plastic surgery, this I do not deny. I just don't feel that it's fair to generalize all people who have received plastic surgery as some kind of tragic cases who feel "wretched " about themselves.

Men like big tits, women like to look good, have fair skin and legs that aren't road-mapped with varicose veins. There's nothing wrong with a desire to be attractive. It's natural for all of us.

Modern Western society tells us that beautiful rich people are perfectly happy (not really of course, but that's what the TV tells us) so people are encouraged to believe they are unhappy because they are not beautiful/rich enough. It's easier to blame your nose for your unhappiness than search for the real reasons - and then surgery seems like the magic answer.

One of the most sickening things I've seen on TV was the start to one of those "extreme makeover" shows where they give out free cosmetic surgery. They told one of the women, who was a primary school teacher, that she was going to be on the show in front of her pupils. To hear a 6 year old girl say "now she'll be beautiful and so then she'll be happy" made me feel.... I don't know how to express it. Kind of how I feel if I accidentally read one of Thales2's posts.... sickened??

That some people are misguided and do things for the wrong reasons, doesn't mean that there aren't good reasons to do it. And looking better is a perfectly good reason for cosmetic surgery.
