They were great movies, but like the first 2,RotK will get screwed, big time,at the Oscars. The Academy has always been prejudiced against action, adventure, and Sci-fi films, and it will be no different this year. Expect RotK to be beaten out by Cold Mountain(which was also VG) or 21 Grams. No statues for Mortenson,Astin,or Serkis, either,I'm afraid. Oh yes,RotK will win a bunch of Technical awards, but none of the biggies. My favorite critter:The Watcher in the Water(FotR)-a good "kraken" type concept. Least favorite-the Wargs in TT-they look like hyenas on steroids!

There are rumours that the Gandalf WitchKing confrontation (which was in the trailer) concludes with the WitchKing breaking Gandalfs staff. You'll notice that its missing when he rescues Faramir from the pyre and Gandalf is looking a bit rough. People familar with the book will know the consequences of that, so I won't bore you with them.
To me that wou ...[text shortened]... ours 15 minutes.

And yes before you reply, I am quite the geek for knowing about this shite
I had a scan of my cheeky ROTK DVD, and yep no staff for Gandalf from that point on. In all the battle scenes he just has a sword. Yes it is a good scene in the book, a real challenge of wills. I could not see the mouth of Sauron, do you mean you can just see them riding up to chat with him, but from then on its edited out?

Yep, I agree that the oscars are driven by OEM but I truly believe that Peter Jackson will get the 'best director' oscar, if only as a token of 'we could not have done it, so.. ' from the 'not in our country' brigade.

Reality check here, the first movie ( FOTR) grossed enough revenue to cover all costs and over-runs so that the that the returns on TT and ROTK were pure gravy. The oscar givers need to be nervous. Very nervous. Their collective credibility is in grave danger. Be afraid- be very afraid.

its edited out the same way as the Saruman bit, you don't see him but there is definitly a bit cut in the middle of Gandalf and Aragorn riding to gate and coming back.

You have a DVD of RotK? Bootlegged, or what?
