Every time some gun nut has massacred innocent people in the US
( which seems like a weekly event ) the police has dealt with them .
Where are the gun carrying john Wayne's ready to pop them off before the police respond ?
Answer is simple.
We (the good guys) READ and OBEY laws.
So when we enter a school yard, or a theater, or a mall, we clearly see the signs posted that say "Guns prohibited."
The bad guys - surprise, surprise! They do NOT read and obey these signs.
SHOCKING I know!
So let's recap:
We advertise in our country with signs (where large amounts of people congregate) that there are no guns allowed.
The bad guys see these signs and say HOORAY! Sitting defenseless ducks! Perfect! I think I shall bring a gun!!!!
Police get there as quick as is humanly possible.
Never quick enough.

Who is suggesting doing that?
I've never seen a John Wayne movie in my life. Perhaps you have seen too many.

The bigger the population the more problems you will have. Australia has I believe an estimated 24 million people? While the United States have 320 Million people in it? Much easier to control when you have less people. I think that is one reason, among millions of reasons as to why we have more violence. And I am proud to live in a country that can defend ...[text shortened]... service is much appreciated, and I for one am grateful.
Thank you again for keeping us safe.
And just to clarify...
Some folks out there are seeing too many American movies. The average soldier and armed civilian in our country is nothing like the portrayals in movies. Please learn to separate fantasy from reality.
I am a husband, father, son, nephew, neighbor, etc. wanting the same things in life that most of you all do. A roof over my families head, food, medical care, education and most importantly freedom and safety for my kids' future.
I do not leave my house wielding some firearm. I am not eager to ever shoot it. It brings me no joy, no satisfaction, no high. I am a responsible gun owner. I have a great respect and healthy fear of guns. I obey laws.
But we are living in some unsafe times and up and until some of our major societal issues are resolved, I reserve the right to protect my family. I am not sure in my lifetime I will see these problems fixed. Unfortunately.
Someone asked me to list what I believe to be our problems that create such violence here. I will answer that in a bit.
And you are right about comparing our two nations. We are third for population. Australia is like 50th. Apples & oranges for so many reasons.

Not the bigger the population the more problems you will have. Rather, the more the prevailing culture and, incredibly, and what's more, the legislation allows citizens to buy and carry guns, the more problems you'll have.
As to population density, do look at your atlas. If you have one. Australia is populated around the edges, and not all of the edges. Much of the country has hardly anyone. Distances are vast, and the land is almost empty.

If you wish to huddle like terrified prey and watch your family be executed, your choice.
There is no choice to me in that scenerio. I'm voting for at least trying to survive rather than just allowing terrorists to massacre me and every innocent person around me.
Well, maybe if we just leave them alone they will go away? How about that moon? Sound like a plan?

No I'm with you there. Let's get real and send an army over there to finish it. Those IS clowns are madmen. There seems to be too much pussy footing around at the moment. Time to get serious.
Let's just take away their guns! They really are kind, freedom-loving people actually, but you put a gun in their hand and for some inexplicable reason they change into monsters!
You just made my point better than I did, thanks.

Well - best of luck to you. Sounds like a solid plan.
Worked like a charm yesterday.
Wonder how many of the victims who were bleeding out to death yesterday were wishing they had a gun.
You are right. They were probably just patiently waiting for the police to get there.
Originally posted by radioactive69Calling the police is of course what one should do. But as we see time and time again - it only does so much.
We call the police.
You must feel like a big tough man toting that gun.
Carrying a gun doesn't make me feel like a tough man.
It makes me feel like a man who values his life and that of innocent people around me who may fall victim to a crazed madman.
Sad. But that are the times we are living in.
Originally posted by radioactive69I have worked side by side with Australian soldiers. They are some of the finest individuals I know. I would lay down my life for them and I know they always have my back as well.
Go down to your local school or church. Rednecks with the right to own guns popping up left right and centre there.
You guys can have your guns and all the problems that go with them. Just keep them out of Australia. We don't want your problems here.
So you are the first Australia that I have come across with such an anti American vibe. Calling us a bunch of rednecks.
We don't want our problems either. Just like I am sure you aren't thrilled with the problems your nations's face.
We don't want or need your lame solutions. You are uneducated about what is going on here in America.
Originally posted by faithj323I hear your message that people need to be armed so they can respond to a gun nut the thing I don't understand is every time some gun nutter goes off on a shooting spree these people with guns don't shoot the nutters .

Considering there are more guns than people in the US no one seems to want to shoot a nut case and waits until the police arrive . Where are they ?
It's ok firing your gun at a target practice or an innocent animal that will not shoot you back . Compare shooting fatalities in Britain, Australia to the US and that will tell you about being a sitting duck . I am a sitting duck but no one has a gun to shoot me ,simple .
