It may have looked like it would never happen, but here it is - the 9th round of the RHP Photography Competition, "People"! We'll try a slightly different procedure in this round, so please read all the instructions.

Please don't vote for your own entries. Voting is obligatory for everybody who has entered this round, and it would be much appreciated if everybody who plans to enter future rounds would vote in this round as well. And of course any other votes are very welcome, too!
Unlike in previous rounds, comments and discussions are not only allowed, but encouraged right from the start in this round. I would like everybody to say something about their favourite picture. Feel free to comment on other pictures as well, but be a bit careful with negative criticism while the voting is going on. As in previous rounds, the names of the photographers will not be revealed until the voting is over.
Voting will close on Friday, 9 December, 20 UT. The discussion can and should be continued after that, of course. I'll announce the next round somewhere along the way, but you can already start taking (or digging out) pictures for the upcoming rounds, which will be:
10. Urban
11. Humour
12. Chess
13. Still Life (an arrangement of inanimate objects)
14. Extended Exposure
15. Movement/Motion
16. Home (can be in your home, or just in the locality that you would regard as home)
17. Words (?)
If you have questions, complaints or ideas, send me a PM. You can also contact me at rhpphotocomp@gmail.com
Enjoy!

1 Hong Kong Mafia
8 Folding Your Arms in Protest
14 New Hat
15 New Years Eve
3 Cao Daism
6 Day Out
Some great pics here as always. After an initial perusal I find myself drawn to several that for me stand out.
#4. Coming Home and #19. Puppy Love are packed with emotion. This is photography as art. Wonderful!
Noteworthy as well are #13.Copycat, #2 One small step and #10. Wars leftovers. Maybe I could be convinced to include Hong Kong Mafia in this group but the gun really spoiled it for me. I object on principle to the admonition to avoid negative comments and so will ignore it. Not worthy of consideration are:
#3. Coa Daism . I wasn’t sure what I was looking at for several minutes.
#7 Fishing is apparently loaded with personal memories. but this viewer feels none of the warm fuzzy. And it hurts my eyes.
#16. Not now Hun. Please… If this goes in the scrap book, put it face down.
This does not constitute my vote as I await to be convinced of the error of my ways.

It was mostly to avoid the situation we have had before where one picture was picked on a lot, while there were few or no comments (positive or negative) on any other pictures.

Originally posted by NordlysTo me, Coming Home beautifully conveys the feeling of pensive exhaustion after a long trip. I liked how the photopgrapher captures both the personal space of the mother and child and yet you also get a feel for the greater space outside the window. Both related to each other nicely.
Thanks for your vote. Care to say something about "Coming Home"?
Fishing Trip also conveyed a nice sense of the moment. You want to be there.
1st - 10 pts - War's Leftovers
2nd - 8 pts - New Hat
3rd - 6 pts - Fishing
4th - 5 pts - Fold Your Arms In Protest
5th - 4 pts - Hong Kong Mafia
6th - 3 pts - New Year's Eve
7th - 2 pts - Cao Daism
8th - 1 pt - Concentration
Comments on my top three votes:
War's Leftovers captures the pain and the submission of these men, it's a horrible, beautiful photograph.
New Hat is great because the woman is in the middle of saying something, and I like the bling bling she's frontin'. Also love the man who seems like he doesn't want to be there, I guess he must be her husband. He probably drinks.
Fishing feels so real and it's perfect because the sun wipes out the background making the kids in the picture larger than they should be. Would have been nice to compare this to a shot with shade blocking the sun
Other comments: There were some other really great photos that didn't get my vote because they didn't suit the theme for the round.
1st - 10 pts - 10. War's Leftovers
2nd - 8 pts -
3rd - 6 pts -
4th - 5 pts -
5th - 4 pts -
6th - 3 pts - 4. Coming Home
7th - 2 pts - 14. New Hat
8th - 1 pt - 8. Fold Your Arms In Protest
Sorry for not voting for more, but I thought War's Leftovers was just a standout pic. You really get the impression that lives have been ruined by war. The placement of the u.s. flag is great as well.

War's Leftovers is excellent. I like the focus on the clenched ...[text shortened]... to make of you.
I like Fishing as well as you get a real sense of silence from the photograph.
