I don't feel it's rather a particulary high level of piety to insist that others follow the rules that everyone else has to. I also don't approve of people giving the fraudulent impression that they are great player ...[text shortened]... praise that they didn't deserve by deceit. I guess that's real freakin "sanctimonious", too.

Look harder.

Without doing any game analyses, you can see that his massive winning streaks came within 10-day spans while he had been a sub-950 player for months. I'm sure a simple analyses of the games during those spikes will be quite revealing compared to his losses.

There weren't any REAL witches, but there are people cheating here. Big difference. Hopefully the actions taken today will lead to a substantial decrease in engine use, so the players who don't cheat can get more enjoyment out of the site. Sorry that bothers you sooooooooooooo much, Shav.

I remember reading his game analysis of his loss against Akizy.. sounded so perfect like he was just as good as his rating showed.. engine or not.. I bet he was still an extremely good player...

Let me ask you:

Does the theat of prison or the death penalty deter people from committing crimes?

Uhhhhhhhhhhh.....
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....

Nope.

So, what on earth makes you think this will stop people from using computers to win games? Don't you reckon it will serve to make them more subtle about it, so it's less easier to identify who may or may not be doing it?

Once again moronic human nature, Bushist in its simplicity, prevails and yet another course of action is taken which isn't going to serve any greater good.

I am SO pleased we have intellectuals working on these sorts of problems. It's so G'damn reassuring.

Is that what I said? Nope again.

But it is a well known fact that "blue on the streets" deters crime.
It's also a well known fact that postive behavioural stimuli has a far higher rendament of changing behaviour than punishment.

Yes shavi , respond to this please , enlighten us . Should we say to hell with all rules because people will break them ? Or should we get rid of all the rules and rely on the basic goodness of our fellow man ? Seems to be working great in New Orleans right now without all of those pesky police and rules to get in the way of everyone's fun .

Yes, the threat of punishment DOES deter crime.

No, it does not deter 100% of crime.

So what? It will deter some, perhaps most. People who are currently using engines now realize that NO ONE is immune from punishment IF there is overwhelming evidence of their guilt. They'll think about it, whereas before they could cheat with virtual impunity unless they were really stupid like Tlai, Woodley, Blobby and Dom and wanted to shoot their sub-1000 rating up to the stratosphere.

The greater good is served; people here don't want to play engines. People who joined agreed not to use engines. Your solution? Don't worry about it. Sorry, but that's not what most people paid for; they expected a site that took steps to reduce or eliminate engine use as much as possible. That's what we're getting, FINALLY. If you think that makes everyone who doesn't agree with you a right wing fanatic, go ahead, but that's even more deranged than shaving your balls.

What "positive behavioural stimuli" could possibly be applied in this case?
