1) Personally, I don't give a damn if people are shocked by the image. We didn't put it up to shock people. It's our clan logo. It's not gratuitous or offensive in any way.
2) The image has been all over newspapers and television. If students of VT are in shock or in mourning then they should stay off the internet altogether if something like this is g //tinyurl.com/3ddz2r
It's something that people shouldn't see because you say so.
Also, you are not IN America. This happened just south of my location, and there is a family in my state grieving the death of their 20-something kid. There are people from almost everyplace in the US who has lost someone they knew, be it a son, daughter, sister, brother, cousin, uncle, aunt, or friend.
So, you feel like you do... some feel like I do.
Poor taste, too much, too soon. You're welcome to your opinion, as am I... but I don't think the situation is close enough to you for me to give a rat's ass what you think on the subject.

And as for your assumption that I am not close enough to the situation for me to have a credible opinion... the same can be said of you.
I watched news reports on this - exactly as you probably could have done.
I read newspaper articles - exactly as you probably could have done.
I heard stuff on the radio about it - exactly as you probably could have.
What exactly makes you so special? What sources of information on this are you privy to that I am not? Why, (apart from the fact that you're American, and therefore, obviously a victim too) is your opinion more valid than mine?
