Then why did you take my sweeping statement so personally?
Guilt?
a. it is alright for me to be racist.
b. it is too bad that I am scared to be racist
c. racism is normal
Just open the door to intolerance.
As unpopular as it may be, I'm going out on a limb, and say that perhaps Huck has a valid point that you are all discounting. I think he may have been a little over the top in his expression of it, but the truth remains, that all people of whatever race, creed, religion, or what have you, carry with them some sort of bias against another group, no matter how small that bias is, it still exists. To the credit of many in this forum, they intellectually understand this to be wrong.
I've been to "sensitivity training", etc...(colleges are big on that sort of thing), one of the things we talk about is recognizing bias in yourself, and how we all carry some of that baggage with us. Bigotry is born of ignorance and fear, we can educate, but peoples feelings are much harder to change.

Originally posted by duecerThat's not the whole story. Blacks do commit a disporportionately high amount of violent crime here in america.
The racial disparities in American jails are due more to economic factors than race. You will find very few blacks in jail that come from wealthy families. The same goes for whites or any other ethnic group, the poor are disproportionately represented in prison. That however is a completely different argument

I think it is probably futile to try to inject some logic into this discussion.
I have rarely seen a thread that was less intelligible.
It is as if a bunch of people randomly strung some words together.
