Tonight the BBC is showing a program entitled What the world really thinks of America
They polled 1100 people from 11 countries (Australia, Canada, Brazil, France, Indonesia, Israel, Jordan, Russia, South Korea, UK, and USA
Asked who is the more dangerous to world peace and stability, the United States was rated higher than al-Qaeda by respondents in both Jordan (71percent) and Indonesia (66percent).
It was rated more dangerous than Iran, by people in Jordan, Indonesia, Russia, South Korea and Brazil, and more dangerous than Syria by respondents of all the countries, except for Australia, Israel and the United States.
Attitudes towards America as a whole, however, were a lot more favourable, with 50% expressing fairly or very favourable views, as opposed to 40% of unfavourable views. That figure excludes Americans polled.
Just wondered what peoples thoughts were on this?

As a citizen of US...
We know that we are absolutely the worst place on earth, and feel bad each day when thousands of cubans, vienamese, chinese, russians and mexicans die trying to escape this horrible place, and we reject millions of exit visas each year because we love to torture the innocent visitors who we trap here; we know they all would love to leave, but we need somebody to give a bad time so we can't let them escape. We regret forcing the world into coming to NYC to participate in the UN. We just can't help it. And though Japan and Korea are begging us to get out of Asia, we can't stand the thought of not having a few thousand of our troops killed each year, so we leave them in harms way because we are so darned stupid. And though Germany is begging us to get our troops out of europe, we insist on separating thousands of military families just because we want to destabilize the continent. Lets see... in the last hundred years we have invaded Philipines, Cuba, Mexico, several countries in africa, asia, and europe. We have levied terrible taxes on each country we conquored and have millions of troops occupying each country and if they ask us to leave, we nuke them into submission. Geez! We are just such a terrible influence on the world. Makes us shudder to think that we could just let france and russia, who's hearts are pure as snow, police the world. Eastern europe, southeast asia and Algiers certainly can attest to their wonderful attitudes of neighborly occupation.
As an american... we get so disgusted... why in the hell can't the world just leave us alone. We have been dragged kicking and screaming into the position where we could care less if the damned world just genocides itself to death. Big bad Police State. That's us, i guess. Crap! Go Away World!

Next to religion, government puts out more bs and evil than any other force on earth! All governments. There is no difference in any of them. But what the hell can you do? They use my money to buy guns and nukes for their gangs of thugs... (sorry, i meant police and military) and will happily kill anybody who opposes them.
'K then, Mike 😉. I have a few particularly unfavorable opinions about the government, but most of the diatribe I could hit you with has more to do with large society itself, which can't vary hugely from place to place in any fundamental way. Oh well.
I agree. They are, however, charged with the onerous task of maintaining some structure among nearly millions of basically uneducated, self-interested, Darwinistically inclined apes. It is essentially impossible for governments to do a good job-many of them include very capable people, and this makes little diference.
What a pair of crazed malcontents we have going here 😛.
Originally posted by StarValleyWyI agree, I think America gets a bad press in the rest of the world. Admittedly I do not agree with some of their policies, but I don't think there is a goverment in the world I do agree with. More often than not America's heart is in the right place, but just sometimes go about it in the wrong way! Though leaving George Dubya in charge probably doesn't help this.....

p.s. Have you heard about the new french flag.....
There are great people everywhere. America has great people and real garbage, like anywhere else. Ergo one cannot judge a country by its people. The country, as a political entity, is defined by its politics. While you may favor or like the people of America, which I'm not necessarily arguing right now, your last two statements (which are astute and with which I agree) indicate distaste for the US.
Har har. I don't diss the French. While they possibly have not made as great contributions to warfare as other cultures (which isn't even true really), so much of modern Western art, science, and philosophy is due to the French that they must be doing something right. (The French people, that is, not France. I have nothing to say about the political entity 'France'. Apparently you do.)
Clever joke though.
Originally posted by royalchickenIt is just so darned frustrating. You are right (as usual) about trying to govern a world full of status seeking chimps. The only thing we live for is attention and ego boost. I fired off about government, not so much because that is what I believe, but to show a point; at least I CAN SPOUT OFF ABOUT ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING without fear of getting in trouble. (except from my wife... then all bets are off!)

If I could be king of the world... sigh... never mind. Everyone would soon get tired of being forced into isolated mountains to smell the wild flowers and watch the birds, go fishing and regard wild elk.
Originally posted by royalchickenNo, I don't really mind the French, and yes they have contributed somewhat to philosophy and art. I mean my thesis would not make sense without Bourdieu, Foucault, and Levi-Strauss. As regards their contribution to warfare I leave you with a great quote:

As far as France is concerned, you're right." Rush Limbaugh 😲😲😲
glad to see that even some americans have realised how crap and hated their country is, its not just dubyaw, the "american dream", the government, the fact you cant speak English but claim you do, and patriotic rednecks. But the thing that realy, seriously, gets right on my tits, is that you are proud of your history. I am british and i can be proud of the majority of my history because we have learnt from it and we didnt try genocide. I am sorry if this may be confusing some of the more patriotic of americans, but what you proudly did to the Native Americans was genocide and the discrimination still doesnt stop!
Britain too once policed the world and this was on the seas, we can prouly say we stoped most of the slave trade, we were also the first country to abolish slavery.

not totaly proud of this now (especially all the swearing) but I was very angry when i wrote it.
As yet i have not met an american I can safely say i have liked (or not bitterly hated) due to the many reasons, the main one being their undying love for their country, ok I know i said i was proud of my country, but, i do object to some of my goverments actions (past and present), i dont like the way it is run at present, and i do recognise the monarchy (thats the queen) bit mainly as part of our history.
i am glad to see how long this thread has lasted i was expecting some redneck to allert the administrator the moment we started to tell the truth about their dear country.ðŸ˜
