I don't think French food is all it's cracked up to be - sure they do some clever things, but it's a lot of faff and fuss in my opinion.
I would put Greek, Italian, Japanese, Chinese and Indian above French.
Americans often complain about British food, too. I have come to the conclusion that their main cause for complaint is the size of the portions and the price. Seriously, food in the US is twice as big and half the price. But I often work in the US, and after a week eating at restaurants I am craving fruit and veg. It is heavy on the meat and hydrocarbs (and I don't eat meat).
One good thing though - the breakfasts in the US can be fantastic - waffles, omelettes, eggs, pancakes, etc.
The worst cuisine I have tried is a toss up between Czech and Quebec (ham, eggs, feve au lard and maple syrup is NOT a worthy national dish!).

Originally posted by VargAlso he can't link Britain in one grouping. I think the Scots must eat the blandest food alive (haggis excepted - it's nice), but modern English cuisine is excellent. In fact, cuisine around the world has undergone a revolution.

Now, how a thread on favourite recipes of the world where we can share our best?
This is serious , not a crass joke : Ethiopian rules ! I had Ethiopian neighbors for a couple of years . I have no idea what they served me when invited over (their accent was very thick , and to this day I can't understand 1/2 of what they said or pronounce that which I could understand) , but every dish was OUTSTANDING .
