I dont really know any famous persons personally, but our town has collected quite a few famous people (perhaps not known all over the world, but still).
First of all, Haile Gebreselassie lived in our town. His is (former?) world record holder for 10 km Track & Field.
Francis Hoenselaar lived in Uden. She is one of the two best female dart players in the world.
Earny Stewart was also a "Udenaar". He plays in the US national soccer team.
Last but not least, Tatjana Simic lived in our town. I guess she isnt quite a world-famous person, but the dutch men among us are having a smile on their face right about now.
Furthermore, my girlfriend has two famous persons in her family.
Her cousin Maurice Bolwerk, a former motorcyclist. But her female cousin is more famous in The Netherlands. She plays in the most famous soap, "Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden". I believe her character is called Valerie.
Grtz, Bart.
OK, folks, I hate to admit it, but I've read all the posts and frankly we don't know anybody. That's right. Let's just admit the awful truth. We are terribly isolated except for our fellow isolated on this site. Regrettably, Anna Kornakova does not play chess here and she probably wouldn't have anything to do with anybody here. I know it's bad news, but it's the truth. 😳
A friend of mine is married to the producer of the John Daily Show, and she used to be the producer of the David Lettereman Show. I met David Letterman and Paul Shaffer at his house, and felt like a big shot for the evening. I once performed at the House of Blues in L.A., and got to rub shoulders with a few Hollywood movie people. Thats my brush with greatness. I'm still a nobody.
Originally posted by Brother EdwinHey, while we're talking tenuous links to fame (extra points for really lame "celebrities", here are a few:
I know someone who knows eddie izzards brother
i know someone who knows someone who looks like Boy George.
I spoke to the Chuckle Brothers once
my mum met Dawn Frence
I saw that fat man from never mind the Buzzcocks in a cafa
I saw Neil from "Neils house party"
I once bumped into Su Pollard as I was being "escorted" from the first class compartment on a train.
I bumped into Magenta DeVine coming out of a shop in Sheffield.
I was in the passenger seat when friend nearly crashed his car into a car containing the Chuckle Brothers, and as the cars skidded to a stop we sat and stared at each other.
I shook hands with Phil Oakey in Sheffield.
Wilf Lunn lives in my village (for those who remember him!).
I went to the same school as Roy Castle (only about 30 years after he left).
I walked past Steve Davis the other day.
Former British PM Harold Wilson stroked my dog (and spoke to me a bit).
And, possibly the most tenuous one:
When I was at school, my friends dog was borrowed for a background scene in Last of the Summer Wine. (And I used to worked with someone who lived in Thora Hird's house in the same program).
Ok - this is too funny - I want to play.
- My men's doubles tennis partner got knocked out of a mixed doubles tennis tournament by Alastair McGowen and his partner.
- I saw Piers Morgan at the checkout of a WHSmith's store in Haywards Heath earlier this year. (Probably buying an airbrush kit and a copy of Practical Photography Magazine)
- One of the security guards at the company where I did my university sandwich year was the cousin of one of the guys out of the band Suede.
- While at a restaurant with a group of people, my friend asked me if I thought Zoe Ball was sat at a table across the room. It wasn't Zoe Ball, but as I turned around I noticed someone else and said "No, but Mathew Perry is sat behind us". He was with someone else I recognised from an episode of friends and later found out was called Hank Azaria.
- I once saw Andy Roddick at a tennis tournament 😛
And now I can add to that list with such statements as
- One of the players on a website that I help to run, once bumped into Su Pollard as they were being "escorted" from the first class compartment on a train.
