Not sure what I did to piss you off but you have been on my back for about a year now. You should try being in my shoes for a while and see how fast you solve the problems I have experienced with comps.

You never pissed me off, nor have I "been on your back for about a year".
I have to still do some support work and used to do much PC and network support, so I just have a general disdain for the average computer user.
The way you phrase your questions and problems here just reminds of some of the utter idiots I've had to do work for.
Nothing personal π

On previous experience, I'd say less than an hour and 10 minutes on Google.

I found this utility that lets you set res for each login, going to try it, don't see that it will hurt, but don't see it helping much either.
I see a lot of resolution problems but not exactly like mine. I would like to see what you find if you would look.

I have an HP from the year 2002 and it is ok for most things but HP says it is too old, they don't have a recovery disk for that box anymore.
I actually loaded a copy of XP pro from a disk I had lying around and it seems to have a problem which I finally narrowed down to this XP disk, maybe a scratch at a critical place. So you all know MS stopped supporti ...[text shortened]... the market for a store copy of XP pro, not the OEM version. Anybody have one for sale? Thanks.
since microsoft stopped supporting XP, you really don't have any incentive of having a licensed copy other than the fact that you shouldn't steal from microsoft. of course, you shouldn't. so don't get it from torrentz.com

and stupid you are if you do online buying without firewalls and fully updated antiviruses. and furthermore you aren't safe no matter how many protection you use(yes, it applies to condoms too)
just this week several people were indicted for breaking into supermarket security and stealing peoples bank information.
if you install a antivirus and it doesn't discover the little trojan you mentioned, then you will probably get it in anyway next time you visit porn. even if you would have had a licensed copy
Originally posted by ZahlanziYeah, but I was burned by such sites, fortunutely my AV caught it but like you say, you can't see all of them. On that line BYW, there is a new AV some university is studying, called Cloud AV that uses about 12 separate AV's on the same data stream, so if the left hand don't get you the right hand will. Don't know what system resources it takes for that however. I use Trend Micro and that is one of the AV's in the Cloud. TM won't let anything else run, like Trojan hunter and it takes about three minutes to fully load on reboot.

hehe, I was thinking the same thing. For one thing, I have a nice copy of office 2000 pro, a busted version given to me by a MS programmer, I don't think linux runs MS stuff, right?
tweak the system to your specific needs. If you can do that, there's
practically nothing you can't get to work on a linux box. Fortunately for a
lot of people who really don't have the knowledge and/or time to fix
problems of a more technical nature, there are several distros you can
buy with which you'd get support. Judging from your postings I'd say
that's the best option for you.
Some MS stuff can run in linux distributions provided you have WINE at
your disposal. No, not to get that pleasant squiffy, but to run Win API
based applications in linux. It doesn't work with all MS applications, so
you will want to test it on a hard-drive of no consequence first.
