You were the one making false claims - how about you back 'em up?

Now we don't know what they can't screen for - mad cow disease?????
The system's a bit dodgy if they don't screen donations. 😕

They do screen stuff but they had no test in those days [80s] for HIV screening. Who knows what they don't have tests for now?
Unknown diseases can't be screened for.

I didn't guess I used a figure of speech then made sure people understood by saying it wasn't factual. I'm sorry you are one of those healthy lifestyle people with kidney problems but you don't need to be butt hurt about it.

Do you feel a need to nit pick about things that really don't have much bearing on the point being made or something?

Edit: even if it was a guess it isn't automatically false. To call it false you would have to prove it is false. That means you are making a false claim.... How 'bout backing it up?

I just wonder how your "guess" happened to be at 90% when you obviously have no clue to the real figures. As far as I know there has been no published figures or evidence for what would be a virtually impossible question.

So; why not say 25% of people who suffer organ failure may have to bear some of the responsibility themselves?
Sounds like a more likely figure to me.

That means 3/4 people who were healthy just had one of their organs fail for no apparent reason? You say that's a likely figure?

No, in most cases unhealthy things happen to people who lead unhealthy lives and even in your case where your kidneys are bad though not because of unhealthy decisions, you don't need a transplant. If you were unhealthy, drank a 6 pack a day, you probably would need one and if you were my brother and I knew you were doing that I would not give you my kidney..... Which is the point I was making. "most" people who have need of an organ transplant, who aren't born with problems or are injured through no fault of their own, need it because of unhealthy decisions. I don't want to waste my kidney on someone who might wreck it in the next few years.

"Chronic kidney disease may be caused by diabetes, high blood pressure and other disorders. Early detection and treatment can often keep chronic kidney disease from getting worse. When kidney disease progresses, it may eventually lead to kidney failure, which requires dialysis or a kidney transplant to maintain life.:

I have diabetes so that was a contributing factor.....I guess I got diabetes through my own fault though.

I didn't say it was for "no apparent reason". There are many reasons that cause organ failure which are NOT self inflicted.
25% is a more likely figure than 90% in my opinion. I'll ask my consultant for his opinion when I next see him.

haven't you ever watched any horror movies? anyone who gets the corneas or heart of a murderer gets possessed by the murderer's spirit seeking revenge. don't know if it applies to the other organs though. never seen a movie where a kidney recipient gets possessed and goes on a killing spree.

hmm..that idea is copyright, btw😠

I would not mind donating a kidney, but I will make god-damned sure VR will be excluded from the list. I will not condone alcoholics on the list.
