When you play your best chess, you need to analyze deeply. Do you think Fischer would have been as strong as he appeared against Spassky in '72 if say Spassky was thinking the same length of time, and Fischer was moving within 30 seconds? Do you think Fischer would have played as strong? NO WAY! Not against Spassky. Point given. Point taken. π It's all logical, mate. I'm beating my chess computers on the highest level with plenty of time to think. In a 40 move 40 minute situation, I have literally crushed my 1700 chess computer with combinations I have thought long and hard about. I scored 1850 on the Killer Chess Tactics Exam. But, I literally took sometimes 5-10 minutes to figure out the combinations and all the lines. Not to brag, but I know my strength. I've tested it, and questioned it deliberately. If you're ever in Newport, Oregon, drop by the library. We'll play a 40 moves in 40 minute game, and I'll surely bring my digital chess clock as always. π
I don't buy the story that you haven't time enough to think because you're in a public library, you are online and posting quite often and for a good amount of time.
As I don't buy that you say you play 1700 strength OTB and only 1400 in correspondence chess.
How's that?
Didn't you say you play bad because you have no time to think?
So how is that OTB you play better than correspondence, as you claim?

You are really contradicting yourself.
First you claim that you need plenty of time to think, then you claim that you "literally crushed your 1700 chess computer with combinations you have thought long and hard about." in a 40move/40 minutes situation.
Do you want me to believe that 1 minute per move against a computer is "plenty of time to think"?
Originally posted by RavelloNo, because you don't have to think extremely long in some situations! But, with 40 moves in 40 minutes, I'm able to devote a lot of time when I need it, and not devote as much time when I don't. You are not a very logical person.

Originally posted by RavelloBecause, like I said, I don't play correspondence on here. I move quickly. True correspondence chess is researching in books, use of databases, etc... I don't use anything, and make all 28 moves or more in a single hour at the library - that's for all my games at once. Ravello, you don't seem to comprehend much, eh? π I've had to explain this over and over again.

Hehe, i beat rand also a long time ago on chessmaster 8, 233 Mhz computer haha. I miss my chessmaster10000. It uses so much Ram, power, it won't even run properly on a 800 Mhz. Need a 2.4 Ghz labtop which my sister took with her to university for 2 years π Deep Fritz 8 isn't as fun to play against because its fritz. Not many different personalities.
Ravello 1700 Otb player? Me too canadain though. Why's your rating so low?
