Also if he moves the king to d6 then it isn't mate.
Finally played a game worth posting:

Notes:
8...Qd5
stopping threat of 9. Qg6+ Ke7 10. Qf7++
12...Ne7
covering the g6 escape square for my knight and preparing 13...g5 and 14...Bg7
13...Nd7
to stop 14. Nf6+ saving my h8 knight
14.Bf4
if now 14...g5, 15. Bxc7 Bg7 16. Nd6+ and 17. Nhf7 and my knight escapes
14...Rc8
or 14...c6 leading to same mate
*sorry about all the edits. Took me awhile to figure out how to post my game.

Hi Woody.
Great finish. When I was looking at the game I saw another line/idea
but the way it panned out was very good.

[WhiteRatin ...[text shortened]... ding Black moves I'm pretty sure this how it would have gone.} [/pgn]
King's Gambit and a variation I never played before. I think his first mistake was 4 N d7, I think you are supposed to stop white from getting the f pawn which would have meant he should have gone g5, etc.
I think his 10 bd6 was a big mistake, allowing me to bust up the king side pawns.
I sac'd the rook on move 13 because it looked like there was no defense after bishop takes back.
I thought 15 kh1 rather than take bishop was much better because it stopped further checks, wasn't sure where a bunch more checks against me would have led. I rather liked that non take move!
This was from a game played just a few minutes ago on chess.com, 3 minute time limit. Opponent rated just under 1400 and I at 1500. Not a huge difference in rating, but enough.

What about 14...Kg7!? 15.Qxh7+ Kf6 - a desperate attempt to run?

Here's a sharp game of mine 🙂 Checkmate would have been forced in next move.

Originally posted by FanakickYou're right, I made a miscalculation. I ws thinking that after your king came to g7 then the white queen could just come back to b7 and save the b1 knight but I didn't notice the f5 bishop.
But with 15. Qxc5 Qxa1 16. Qxc6+ Kf8 17. Qxa8+ Kg7 18. ... Qxb1 I could come out ok, or do I miss something?
