I did it!! I got to 2009 today at blitz, now for bullet. Whilst I've reached 2300 at blitz in the past, it takes a while to get "back in the grove"; considering I had a long layoff from blitz.
No one else here has gotten to 2000 on the playchess server yet?

Getting to 2300 will need stronger opponents considering the good preparation at that level.
Originally posted by z00tI have a very old version of GNU chess, but haven't used it much. I've mainly been doing tactical puzzles on the CTS. How much does playing against GNU Chess help?

@Falco_Lombardi GNUChess with an opening book plays to about 2000ish level and is better than weakening Fritz. Also GNUChess is available on Linux and does not support analysis. Another good opponent is the Surprise engine.
Tactical puzzles alone will not help you if your opponent springs an opening surprise or if you are in the middlegame/endgame. This is where an opponent comes in.
@CMS Master you are doing it wrong. Play about 5 games, analyse where you went wrong, if its an opening read it up etc. Don't go an lose 20 games and then give up without knowing why you lost.
@HomerJSimpsonpractice is all it takes.
Originally posted by z00tThis is about the third time I've quit blitz. I'll be back in a week, thanks for that advice though - I have trouble knowing when to stop, my losing streak didn't start until about 7-10 games in last night, and I then proceeded to lose 10 straight. 🙁

Originally posted by cmsMasterThe same thing happens to me. I am never satisfied unless my rating is at a certain level, and I keep playing and losing.

Originally posted by JusuhI thought I was the only one. Its not hard for someone who plays OTB chess as well but for the typical CC player (Analysis boards, Opening Books & Databases) it could be as hard as learning to write in Chinese.
I have. I also had about 2300 max. rating on playchess for a while, but then dropped back to 2000-2200 zone and got stuck there. and eventually I quitted playing there.
