Hey z00t, I'd like to thank you for the advice about playing only a few intense games at a time. My rating is almost back to where it was before that horrendous losing streak.

Do about 20 minutes of the CTS every day.
Read "Logical Chess: Move by Move's" chapter on Queen Pawn Games.
After that, read "How to Reassess Your Chess." (Has a chapter on endgame .)
Then, I plan to start memorizing openings with a database.

Any good?
That has to improve your game for sure...

however... I used Personal Chess Trainer www.personalchesstrainer.com and the K+P endgames are automatic now.

It lets you train by doing so that when you get in the situation you understand the concept without having to read anything.

(not that I am against reading)

You can get the demo that will take you as far as unit 6 I think.

Nah my bullet is below the 2000 . Perhaps I need to get an optical mouse and play from an Ethernet rather than a wireless connection?

I'm using that at the moment, and am finding it a great help, in tactics, strategy and endgame, the latter 2 being the areas I'm studying at the moment.

I'm above 2000 at bullet, drop below sometimes but don't have too much trouble getting back to 2000. I'm below in the other fields.

Anyone who has found his thread useful? A "good" CC player should have no difficulty adjusting to speed chess or OTB slow chess for that matter.

I can't stand it. I have no idea whether or not I'm improving when I set a rating high in the afternoon and then lose 150 points later that night. And then after like the tenth lost game in row I just give up and purge my rating by trying to get my king to the other side of the chess board in the opening.

That happens in blitz. You gotta take the average. My bullet chart goes from 1800-2100.

When do you play on PlayChess? Have you noticed the influx of multi-processor machines or "cores" as they are called?

Good thread, I will have to read through it. I broke 2000 once but couldn't maintain it. I usually stick between 1800-1900, but it really flucuates like crazy. I know I got the skills to get there, I just don't manage my time very well.

Yes, I have. I made 2733 engine in the engines room on Playchess, then all of a sudden it dropped big time. It shows the specs of the opponent and most of them have more than 1 thread or processor. I've seen up to 8 threads. I'm just trying to hang in there with my single processor 32-bit Athlon.

Get someone a bit stronger to look through your games as you are likely making the same mistakes.
