blitz rating is about 70 points higher than slow rating...
I still wonder when should I think over 20 minutes? extremely complicated middle-gaem position is all that comes to my mind. but often I dont get into such positions (as you might remember, I am that "boring as hell" pirc-player...)

How long would you spend on that and what would you play?

in a blitz game I would spend 2-4 seconds and play Nf1...
oh sorry , is it black to move?? then I would most probably just play h6 or Nd7.
in a blitz game I would play Nd4 though...
have to go now...keep this thread alive..

You cant of possibly worked out all the Nd4 lines in that time 🙂
One of the things I find takes quite a bit of working out is when you have a choice of which rook to move on the back rank ie maybe you have a choice of Rfd1 or Rad1, can take quite a bit of working out before deciding which one is best, especially if its clear both the e and the c files could come into use in the near future.

I've been wondering about that blitz-thing though, as it seem vast majority gains almost nothing from lots of blitz. but every now and then there seems to be someone who does. they must blitz somehow differently from the rest of us, maybe playing some kind of 'real chess' even in minimal amount of time? I myself tend to wing it, disregarding everything I've learned about chess. needless to say, I suck massively at blitz. :-/

he doesn't really play here, just comes for the forums I guess. but if you check out his games, you'll see that he drew against trains44, who was kicked for engine use. (which btw makes bowman's games against trains44 pretty impressive also...)
Originally posted by Bedlamdid you win it? 🙂 Nd8 followed by Ne6 looks like a pretty good plan too...

and you are right. I didnt calculate all the Nd4 lines. I just worked out the main lines. in a real G/90 OTB game I would spend little more, but definitely not more than 5-10 minutes.
and yeah...I scored pretty well in the town championships 🙂
