Your present profile shows 56% wins... [b]3% Draws... 41% Losses.
Mine shows fewer wins with 54%... 25% Draws and Losses 21%.
"Could you explain why this should be the goal please?"
To avoid the worst case possible scenario... [hidden]LOSSES!!![/hidden]

I had expected some link with the learning progress of chess students... In that framework I would expect a lower W-D-L ratio. Because most is learned from losses and only little is learned from wins. You just need enough wins to stay motivated and to measure progress relative to other players.
I don't think my ratio is bad. I feel pretty confident with the amount of wins and have a lot of losses to learn from. I could strive for more draws instead of resigning, but what's the point if the result is not my main concern?

The post that was quoted here has been removedMorgski's post was a quote from a book, which he already pointed out. Mine was a synthesis of opinions expressed in the sort of history books my father read. He thought they were utter tosh but they reflected the notion of British greatness at the time. If you want to see me expressing sensible (or even intelligent!) opinions on history, or anything else, then you must track me down in other places. Here, I talk some sense about chess, but anything else I say should be taken with a substantial pinch of salt.
