(it isn't, but just to make a point)
Sorry, what point are you trying to make? 🙂

A guy starts writing to this forum... claims he's rated over 2000 in the "real world"... he then mentions a web site that he writes... which includes his identity... and the world chess federation FIDE has a rating for him... which happens to back up his claim of being over 2000. So why insist on giving the guy zero credibility? Is it just because he has no RHP games or what?

in a word, yes.

there are two ways to earn credibility here: having a rating to back it all up, or talking chess until it becomes obvious you possess Teh Skillz.

'naff', 'bozos' and 'beating in blitz' are not words that affect the latter way favourably.

Sounds good though. I'll keep it.

I'm looking at the lads games after his original posting.
He is doing OK.
One premature attack game (game 4950191) which he lost
And he learned something because game (4950198) he actually
beats back a premature attack with some fine mid-game play.

(sorry Bob).
dude i agree with you, in themselves they are meaningless, no one i think was suggesting that he blindly learn variations and recall them from memory, that is memory and not chess, and yes perhaps some of the advice was ill advised if well intentioned, but what could we say, the young man in question was asking us what we should suggest about openings and there significance, however we are all at different stages and must try and give the best advice that we can, to say that we can learn nothing from a guy with a keyboard i dispute as many players have helped me to clarify and understand concepts that had previously lacked clarity. I will stick by my own recommendations as they answered the question, avoided a plethora of theory, would have honed his tactical awareness and were flexible enough to combat most situations that he would find himself in. I apologise profusely for calling you a megalomaniac, it was a slanderous defamatory comment borne from frustration and having no foundation other than your rather boisterous comments. I myself am an individual destined to pick up pebbles on the beach when a whole sea of experience lies before me, humility is something that i treasure above all things and therefore wish you well, ' just a table standing empty by the edge of the sea, means farewell Angelina, the sky is embarrassed and i must leave now', regards Robbie Carrobie chess noob.

FIDE ratings have a lot more credibility worldwide that RHP ratings, regardless of what you think.

I already stated it.

There's another chess forum where Geoff has been posting for years... about Scottish chess. In the last week, he mentioned RHP and his RHP handle there. What next... that's not Geoff either?

Let's just put an end to this nonsense.

I'm from Scotland. Geoff Chandler is from Scotland. I see him at tournaments. I see what level he plays at. I see that he's the same guy as pictured in his web column "Chandler Cornered". And some day he's going to mention RHP in that column, just as he already has on the Chess Scotland forum which is moderated and the moderator knows Geoff personally too.... etc etc Need more?

How can you compare that level of evidence to the Jean Herbert case?

I am afraid I am that Geoff Chandler.

(greenpawn - a hibeee chess player)

quote:

"I apologise profusely for calling you a megalomaniac,"

Honestly there is no need - water off a ducks back.

I called you lot Bozo's. I'm sorry-ish. Let's all be friends.

All I wanted was some five minute games but the rantings on the
board got to me.

I'm decling offers to play real chess ATM. I really am paranoid
about an opponent using a computer. Sorry it's just me.

I can tell by looking at your game most of you don't use boxes,
well none of you actually. Too many mistakes (here we go again...)

I'm really too busy to give the games the time they demand - I'd
time out (or forget my password - again).

I might sneak back on under another name - The Bozo!

See you all on the Corner. ...and may all your sacs be sound.

Edit: I was born in Bethnal Green in London - Mum's Scottish.

Do you plan to mention RHP in your web column that has been going for years?

you're just a guy on the internet, who I don't know, but who says he has all this information about another player who hasn't made a single move here. I'd like to believe you, as I'd like to believe greenpawn, but really all I've seen so far is hearsay. and I'm sorry, but after seeing so many imposters over the years, that's not enough. I'm even wondering why I bother to write about this, when he has zero moves. maybe he is who you think, maybe he isn't, but there's still 0 moves, which should already point out that none of this matters. but I guess we're not really talking about greenpawn, but every random guy who wanders in from the rain, with 0 moves but big words.

with 'jean hebert' we at least had a trail of wins you could expect from an IM, a lot of chess talk, and a lot of people, not unlike you, who no doubt would've swore he was the real thing. but then he turned out to be an imposter. and when I contacted the real hebert, he hadn't even heard about rhp. case closed, lots of dumbstricken spectators.

so how much credibility should be given to a random newly joined member with 0 moves? how much effort should we use to verify his background?

I say zero. regardless of whether he happens to be who he claims or not. isn't that just reasonable?
