It's funny to see how this thread evolved into a credibility statement; I'm sorry that it did.
The few points I did get was to focus more on the endgame - which I've heard many times before and haven't looked into yet... - and try unusual openings - still a problem since I don't know how to transition to the middle game after the book lines. The opening still confuses me. The middle isn't bad. I'm not shabby at the end.
Well thanks for that. I'm pretty confident that I'm snagging another 4 games with the 4 I've won so far - 2 early queen captures and then simple piece majority.
Originally posted by WriterAnathemayou mean all that stuff i wrote about having an opening repertoire, its importance etc was in vain, alas its too much for one man to stand, i dunno why i post here either, its not that i think i am good, i am exceedingly average, i come here to learn, but i put a lot of time into that post as i thought i could really help someone, once again harbouring delusions as usual !

Originally posted by greenpawn34Well, whoever you are, you've certainly added some octane to this thread. I suspect you're probably Chandler, since Varenka claims to know you personally, and, gee whiz, I just like to believe in people telling the truth. 😵 But I'll also wait to see your column in Chandler Cornered before I'm completely convinced. (You could have some fun with us by delaying the writeup, using some lame excuse about having to do more research, or writer's block, etc.) ...OK, but that would really be mean of you. 😛 ...That is, it would be mean of you if your name really IS Geoff Chandler. If you're name isn't Geoff Chandler, then you're just a mean, lying scumbag. (OK, I'm rambling now. I'm just having too much fun with this whole identity issue, hehe.)
I am afraid I am that Geoff Chandler.

Honestly there is no need - water off a ducks back.
I called you lot Bozo's. I'm sorry-ish. Let's all be friends.
All I wanted was some five minute games but the rantings on the
board got to me.
I ...[text shortened]... your sacs be sound.
Edit: I was born in Bethnal Green in London - Mum's Scottish.
Anyway, for the rest of us while we wait for progress in the Cornered corner, here's a 2005 article on chess opening books from someone "claiming" to be Geoff Chandler:
http://textualities.net/collecting/features-a-g/1chandlerg03.php
BTW, Geoff, are you any relation to Murray Chandler? I just got his "How to Beat Your Dad at Chess" book. A terrible title, but seems to be a good book for novices, with 50 mating patterns.
Hi - it's me. (well I think I am).
First of all I don't think I'm famous enough to have an imposter.
That other person who you say is an imposter is me as well.
Textualities is an Edinburgh based magazine. I write for a few
other mags and sites.
Next up on Textualities is 'proof' the Lewis Chess Pieces are
not chess pieces and did not come from the Isle of Lewis.
I was thinking of claiming on the Corner that I have an imposter but that
would undermine everything I have said here, also my ego
would not allow it. (I am a meglomaniac!)
Sorry to hear you have been duped before - pretty sad, you can
only feel sorry for the individual, but again there is a worry side.
Suppose an imposter started making racists remarks or being
really offensive unknown to the real person. Now that is scary.
No relation to Murray, though we have corresponded, I mentioned
I could pass off as his Dad. A few years later he wrote 'How to beat his Dad.' (a good book by the way)
I don't think I inspired the title but have often quoted.
"Your son beats you in one lousy game and he writes a book about it!"
We got mixed up once with an advert for Master Chess.
One guy said I saw it was written by Murray Chandler - bought it
and then discovered it was written by YOU!. I want a refund.
Cannot think of anything else to prove you have not been the victim
of hoax. On the Corner I will show a couple of 5 minute games I
have played here. Some Latvian Gambits and I'll dot other clues
on the Corner that only Red Hot Pawnites will spot. That should do it.
(I'll use the Murray beating his Dad joke as more proof).
I was going to add that this may well be my last posting, I don't
want to chip in with people thinking I am going to use anything
they say to rip them to pieces on my site. (I'd never do that).
But I'm in a quandry. If I don't post again and suddenly go away
then people will think. 'So he was an imposter after all.'
And anyway, there is lots going here and if I get stuck for an idea
or need a game. (I love using games played by weaker players -
I mean nothing unkind by that that, these games are much more
interesting and their mistakes are often very instructive. Also, every
now and then I unearth a mini-masterpiece. A game that would have
remained hidden forever. That always gives me a great deal of pleasure.)
Thanks for all the kind words and the emails I have received from
the Corner. Some mailed just to see if I was me and warn me
that I was on another site.
Finally the bad news.
Over the years my site has attracted quite a world wide following.
And because of it's nature it has attracted every nutcase that has
ever pushed a pawn.
I fear after my piece on the Corner some of these loonies will
join here. So if some new guys start appearing and are nutters
then you will know where they came from. I'm sorry.
They are really harmless and are just looking for an argument.
Don't get sucked in.

Jacob Aagaard(GM), the current British Champion, is giving a unique challenge to visitors of Kelvingrove Art Galleries and Museum on Saturday 28th June by offering to play against all-comers in a 12 board simultaneous display throughout the day. Anyone, and I do mean anyone, is welcome to play aginst the British Champion if they give a donation of £5 to a charitable organisation that Jacob has chosen. He is donating his own time at no charge. Kelvingrove are donating the venue for this event at no charge.
This event will give chess-players and the general public (potential chess-players) a foretaste of the setting for the Glasgow Congress which will be held in Kelvingrove in November. The main thrust of this years congress will be to reach out to the public and demonstrate that organised chess is alive and well in Glasgow, and that they are invited to join our ranks. This challenge simul has exactly the same thinking behind it and is likely to attract some media attention.
It is an excellent opportunity for any chess-player, no matter if they are generally 'active' or inactive. If you can make it along that day you would be very welcome.
dude you know i am a chess noob, please forgive my ignorance, when you say twelve boards how can that mean that anyone can play and also what is the congress, i dont care i am gonna be there anyway, to play the British champion for a fiver, man hes gonna wish he charged me fifty quid just for the privilege!😀 wait a minute i just re read, he will be playing through out the day, twelve boards at a time, yass!
Originally posted by Varenkagubbed, lol, i can hardly type for laughing, do you think that you can take him? i mean anything can happen on the day.
He's doing it throughout the day, so once you get gubbed, you stand up and someone else gets to play a game. It's 12 games at a time with the boards freeing up for new players.
Originally posted by greenpawn34we've been sort of living by "joined after 2001, controversial statement, ignore" for years already. 🙂 that's why your first post in this thread drew so much attention to begin with. -because like you said, people starting out like that usually turn out to be nutters.
