It just seems natural to me, cramping the center then 3...c5 4.c3 or I prefer 4.Nf3
Although I hate playing against the FD on the whole.
It's called the Advanced, seems positional to me - but supposedly it can be aggressive.

It paints a great big target sign on d4, the only thing better than 3. e5 is.
1. e4 e6
2. d4 d4
3. Nc3?! Nf6
4. e5? Nd7
5. Nf3 (f4 is pretty scary) c5.

I think I have some examples of the advanced, but I didn't do to well against it - I've never done very well against the French, 2.Qe2 seems to do best for me.
I'm not a great defender, which I think is why I have trouble against it.

The post that was quoted here has been removedI know two people other than myself otb who play the french in response to e4. They both hate the tarrasch as well.
Zebano is not a fan of it either if I recall correctly.
I dont mind facing it.
I started studying weyerstass' and his games vs the tarrash variation.
He crushes it for the most part. =)
