err...
Perhaps you would do well to educate yourself on the matter.
That is all.

Do the rest of us a favor though, don't act like you know whats going on, when you do not.
It would be a simple matter to go to the site and see the chess jackpot for yourself. It is no "outrageous boast" of mine.
And pogo is a well established internet site and you have no spam from them. There is a reason both my mother and wife like to play there, that reason is because my sister in law has actually won one of their holiday jackpots a few years ago which was over 1k.
Now, run along and troll someplace else... ahem. Did I let that slip?
EDIT: Oh, also my mother just informed me that my aunt, (who really is nuts), has won several cash prizes on their bingo games.
Originally posted by TeshuvahReally and your sister knows a member of the band right? This party is getting started right ... I would prefer the email promising me a share of the dictators 2 Billion, only prob is I don't see why I have to part with my bank details.

Originally posted by WulebgrI tried to check out pogo.com once, a long time ago. Just loading their applet crashed my comp - I got the dreaded "blue screen of death". Sounds like they have yet to change their ways.
I tried to play at pogo, but it required lowering my anti-scumware protection to unacceptable levels. My son played there for awhile until he got tired of me spending half a day cleaning his computer, when he could be gaming.
This was a few years ago.

Sorry all I did not want to start a huge fight over this site. I have never played on plachess and I will check it out. as far as pogo I never won money or never tryed to just have fun playing chess there. Thats all thanks. Kevin
It's like watching a friend drink Seagrams when a bottle of single malt has been offered. You hate to see the ignorance.

And others like to think that simply because someone says playing at pogo is *fun* once in awhile that they are displaying ignorance.
And further yet, some others like to believe that a company with a revenue of nearly 3 billion dollars last year would like to swindle them out of their paltry bank account.
Theres been plenty of ignorance on display in this thread, but no one who said playing at pogo once in awhile is fun, are guilty of it.

In any case, lots of folks hope to find information in these forums. Inasmuch as pogo et al offer chess, but fails to merit recognition as "a chess site," such information necessarily belongs in these chess forums.
You do know that pogo is owned by EA right?
Do you know anything about EA?
Pogo is a gaming site, that has chess. I have not seen anyone in this thread arguing that it’s the greatest place on the internet to play chess. Obviously, it is not.
However, that does not mean it's not fun once in awhile, and they do in fact give away a ton of prizes including as advertised, their cash jackpots.
And the site is certainly not *garbage*. Its success would clearly indicate that to someone who is NOT ignorant.
Originally posted by Kevin McfarlandI use to play on there years ago. ITS OK, BUT i think you will fine better and more serious players here at RHP. Welcome aboard and good luck.🙂
I just have a few good friends on there and was wanting to maybe meet a few players from here on there. edit Also it is a free web site.

Since EA is prominent in the gaming world and continues to offer chess and other games on pogo in a format so clearly inferior to every bona fide chess site, it seems that development of their product is clearly subordinate to development of their advertising. EA is to gaming what Walmart is to fishing gear: there's plenty of variety if you're not looking for true quality.
Of course I can enjoy catching fish on a rod I bought at Walmart, but having once fished with a quality rod, I can no longer find a single reason to give a single dime to the fishing department at Walmart.
I've played on yahoo and flyordie, and started the process of playing on pogo (as noted above). There are hundreds of places to play online, but even Chessmaster's (Ubisoft's) crappy site is superior to pogo, et al.
It's too bad, really, because the Pogo comic strip was first class. They've taken a good name and dragged it down. At least yahoo had the decency to take a name that means fool.

You seem to be trying really hard to make it seem like that is what someone is saying.
Perhaps the voices in your head?
This all started when someone ignorant on the matter took issue with me commenting that pogo offers cash prizes, calling it a boast of mine. Then going off on some tirade about a dictators booty or some such tripe.
I don't really care about your personal opinion of pogo, you're welcome to it. Your experience with them is not remotely similar to mine. I've had 0 troubles.
I play there rarely, and even rarer do I play chess there. Although my wife plays there quite a lot.
The only thing I will contest with you on the matter is that you seem to think somebody is trying to say pogochess = thewin!!!
Heres a hint, no one has said that.
