I don't really care about your personal opinion of pogo, you're welcome to it. Your experience with them is not remotely similar to mine. I've had 0 troubles.
RHP is a serious chess site. Why bring up pogo at all?
Having brought it up, expect to learn of its inferiority.
Originally posted by WulebgrApparently it was brought up to see if anyone from rhp plays there at all. I'd thought it was a pretty straight forward question when I read the op.

I see no one other than yourself making a comparison between the two.
At some point it deteriorated into a conversation about dictators and bank accounts being fleeced, and something about EA dragging a comic strip through the mud and how yahoo has some larger degree of decency yadda yadda yadda and blah blah blah.
Get a grip, indeed.
EDIT: If it makes you feel better I will say thanks for pointing out the previously unknown fact that pogo is not a serious chess site.
Thanks! 🙄

Everyone that utters any negative press for your beloved pogo, you call ignorant. Yet, you maintain that no one is touting the merits of pogo, just asking for a game.

Well, not much else to say other than have fun wallowing in your ignorance on the matter.

I will take my leave of the conversation now. You and your shovel do continue digging your hole.
Just don't forget to jump in when you are done.
Good day!

lTheres been plenty of ignorance on display in this thread, but no one who said playing at pogo once in awhile is fun, are guilty of it.

And the site is certainly not *garbage*. Its success would clearly indicate that to someone who is NOT ignorant.

This all started when someone ignorant on the matter took issue with me commenting that pogo offers cash prizes, calling it a boast of mine.
I suspect you resort to calling people ignorant because it is easier than finding something constructive to say about a site you believe has merit.
Originally posted by WulebgrIts nice to take things out of context is it not? You seem quite adept at it.

The reason I told the fellow to educate himself on the matter is because he obviously knew nothing of pogo.
So I gave him the chance to inform himself. He chose not to do so and continued his baseless ranting against pogo with comparisons to looting some dictators stash or some such thing.
Yes, that was ignorant of him. All men are ignorant concerning many things, including myself. He just chose to continue in his and ignore the facts of the matter.
Then you chimed in with your own comment which seemed to indicate you believe anyone who plays chess at pogo to be ignorant of what quality chess is. In your words "You hate to see the ignorance..."
I suspect you are the pot calling the kettle black.
As far as the merits of pogo, I certainly did not intend to espouse them here, merely correct some quite obviously ignorant comments concerning it, and that only after an ignorant fellow attempted to say that the verifiable fact I posted was an "outrageous boast" of my own.
But I have already made constructive comments on pogo. It is a fun site to play games at on occasion, and if you are fortunate you can even win real money.
Apparently you lack in the department of reading comprehension.
Work on it mister.
Originally posted by TeshuvahI took nothing out of context. I said that you readily call others ignorant, offering sufficient evidence to leave no doubt. The pattern is clear.

I've left the ad hominems in your post above.
The irony of your assessment of my reading capabilities is matched only by the dissonance between Wattles' reading prescription and your demonstration of thinking about what you've read in this thread. (There. Now, I've called you ignorant.)
As for pogo, go ahead and play there if you like. If it's popular, it must be good.

Pogo, fly or die, yahoo, and others of their ilk are not true chess servers. There are many reasons you'll rarely find serious chess players there:
see http://www.edcollins.com/chess/yahoo-vs-servers.htm
It is probably true that most people playing at pogo either are ignorant of the existence of chess servers, or they have qualms about downloading software in order to have access. Nevertheless, getting that from the above requires some creative misreading.
Look up the work "rare" in the dictionary if you still believe you've read my comment with anything approaching comprehension.
I said that you readily call others ignorant
Including myself.
And I've explained myself on the matter. The man was obviously looking to argue concerning it and he was far too uninformed on said matter to readily debate it.
That is ignorance, on his part.
(There. Now, I've called you ignorant.)
Pot, meet kettle.

You're still stuck on some wild belief that someone is trying to say pogo chess is great.
Pogo as a site is popular because its fun. Playing chess there on occasion is fun as well. No one in this thread has ever said that its a well established chess behemoth and all aspiring players would do well to migrate there.
Theres that comprehension thing again thats haunted you throughout the thread.
I tried it again. The possiblities of meeting Falco in a room called "A Clockwork Orange" was sufficiently alluring.
Alas, I gave up after waiting five minutes for the advertisement to appear that seems to precede actually entering the room. I did some checking to see why it might not load on my computer.
The culprit: doubleclick. I block them with my firewall.
Now I recall my seemingly endless experiences cleaning scumware from the computers of two teenagers. I identified doubleclick as one of the culprits that seemed to open the door to other problems. Blocking doubleclick was also one of the causes of problems I ran into on a correspondence site that deigns to compete with RHP.

Originally posted by TeshuvahIn pogo's case, it appears I must go into my firewall and change the settings to allow doubleclick, or am I mistaken about that, too?
Its the same as here.
You can play free, however you must endure the advertisements and the numerous intrusion attempts from said advertisements.
